How is Angies List working out for you guys? I had a "salesman" call me the other day. At first he wanted 900 a month, a few minutes later he was down to 300. Is it worth it?

They solicit me all the time, yet I pay them nothing Tom.

I don't think so Tom, just concentrate on getting good roof cleaning reviews there, and the people will find you.
I pay 150 per month for 9 months and I was getting 15-20 leads per month and closing just around 65% of them. Probably 7-9 grand worth of work per month from angies list.

Good for you Mike! Here in the Tampa area, we have window cleaners and pressure washers who have cleaned very few roofs, yet these companies will have hundreds of great reviews, from cleaning windows, or blasting driveways.
They decide to get into roof cleaning, and then guess what ? All them great reviews from cleaning windows and blasting driveways are displayed by Angies List, under their roof cleaning headings, despite the fact that none of the great reviews have anything to do with cleaning roofs!
If you decide to advertise on Angies List, IMHO you best have a bunch of great reviews, or you are wasting money.
People on Angies List will always go for whoever has the most and best reviews, in my experience.
Katy Memorial Roof Cleaning & Power Washing got the power washing and roof cleaning service awards again this year for the 8th time. Ad spot cost us $3,320 (the Houston Texas metro area is a big city) this year as it keeps getting more expensive but at 874% ROI, I am not complaining. It brought us 53 new customers, which means that for each customer it cost us $63. Of those 53 customers it netted us a little over $32,000 or approx $28, 680 profit. Whenever you advertise you have to be consistent with your advertising and monitor your %ROI to keep track of what you are making from that advertiser. 0% means that the ad paid for itself with no profit.
You get service awards based upon what the customer gives you credit for whether it be power washing, roof cleaning, window washing, etc.
Marcus makes a very good point about monitoring your marketing.
I can see were a location like Houston, given the size, would have great potential. For my location the membership is limited and would not provide the ROI vs the cost to advertise.
Though I have customer reviews on Angie's List I do not use them, at least at this point.
What makes it even harder is our limited service provided or niche service.
With the right marketing plan and location I see where this could have value.

Well done Marcus. Do you have any how much business you may have received from A.L. without the advertising? This will change your ROI results drastically. Glad to hear that your business continues to do great!

That was just the figures from the customers that responded to the paid advertising. The unpaid advertising was at 56% ROI. That is when a customer finds you on their website, however when you pay you are placed a the front of the list. Therefore it is hard to distinguish between unpaid vs paid advertising.

Exactly! and here in Tampa, you will be faced with companies new to cleaning roofs, with many many more "good reviews" then yourself, all because they cleaned windows, or pressure washed some driveway.
You can be at the top of the list, IF you pay, but no matter if you pay, or not, you can't stop customers from seeking out the company with the best "reviews".
