They are supposed to help the 12 volt from burning up, but how? How do they work, what do they do???

Mike,

Think of it as a pressure storage vessel.  It will allow your system to work with less of a burden on the pump.

I posted at PWI too. Asking the same question.

For 4 years I've never had an accumulator.

It's good to have one but why? Supposed to get more life out of a pump. But how, why,

Anthony Robbins said it's not important to know how electricity works....... To flip a switch and turn a light on.

I'm just really curious.

It is like a bladder tank.  It prevents pulsation and is supposedly easier on the pressure switches.  Keeps them from cycling so much.  One more component to go wrong.  That is why I never used one.

We like the fact that we can "feather" the spray application along the edge right down to a trickle and the pump does not pulsate at all.

We have had zero problems with ours, so that's my two cents worth.

I highly recommend an accumulator. It does have many benefits as described and costs little $.

When you have had as many roof cleaning trucks as I have, and watched them get destroyed by chemical leaks,  you want as simple a roof cleaning system as possible.

That's why we use air pumps and no hose reels. For our purposes, the less connections the better. Our hoses hook right up to our pumps output connection.

That's one reason I never tried an accumulator, but some seem to have had good luck with them.

It works a lot like a capacitor works in a car stereo system Mike.  The accumulator stores pressurized fluid that the hose "feeds on", instead of the hose feeding directly on the pump .

Mike think "Accumulation". The Accumulator basically "accumulates" your mix in a separate holding "tank" if you will. When you pull the trigger of your gun, you can then "call" for what ever amount you need without stressing the pumps. We can use 2GPM nozzles up to 5GPM nozzles and not worry about over cycling or burning the pump up. Accumulators are great for electric pumps. We have used the same accumulator on our 12V pumps for a couple years now and had no problems.

YES, because the pump cycles less, and that is easier on the relays/switches.
