Heres the scenerio... works for a "very" short time then will not function. turn off and wait a few minutes... works for a short time, dies. Shut off wait 15 mins and nothing for 1/2 hr and still nothing. End of day and pack up. take back to shop and next day test with same conditions 90+ weather and just kept working for a full half hour or more so I packed up and awaiting to call the "vendor" tommorrow. has very little hours on it but had similar problem first time using it but fine on jobs after that. confuse?

Could it be a faulty item?

TIA

Not sure Larry, will go measure but it is vendored wired. I can try shortening it as I have some room to move battery closer.

Just wondering if anyone with this pump actually had this problem an found a fix. Fuse never blew.

Maybe if I rewire with a lower guage (fatter) better quality wire will be a better way to go (than shortening)?

Also, maybe when it was bench-tested it was done in an enviorment where the temps were not in the mid 90's thus passing?

How long in your lead wire/ positive . Sometimes if the pump is too far from the battery it will draw too many amps and cause 12 volt pumps to overheat. If the pump has a safety switch for overheating it may be shutting off until it cools down.

Thanks Larry for the advice.

Turns out its 5 FEET! of wire, 30Amp fuse, 12guage 3A/lf 105c

Do you think uping the size and shortening the lenght will help?

I'm using braided house wire. Not sure the gauge, but it's thick. It's only 3-4 feet long. Whatever temp it is it is, I don't have it in a high heat area. I normally run it outside of my truck or trailer.

5 ft is not too bad. When i was having problems it was because i was pulling all the way from my truck battery. You should be fine with 5 ft.

Prewired from the vendor?  From the vendor my Pentaflex pumps have never come prewired.  Who is the vendor? I have never had problems with Pentaflex pumps so long as you do not use too small of a tip.  I am running 10 gauge copper wire that is 6 feet from the battery.  Pentaflex pumps blow doors on any other 12 volt pump that I have used as they are better built.  The ones that I buy do not have a fuse as they come with a circuit breaker.  Try jumping across the fuse.  Measure the voltage at different points.  In a SH environment everything gets corroded.  Make sure all non insulated connections are greased well with electrical grease.  Corrosion can cause a high impedance circuit that will draw too many amps and can over heat the motor.  I have found wires that had corroded all the way through the wiring within the insulation and you could not tell it except there was no voltage.

Also, the one few things I don't do is electrical work, been zapped too many times! but if I go bigger more strained wire like good qualtity audio wire do I need to up the fuse amperage?

19 years ago I was an Electrical Engineer.  I got laid off and ended up in this business.  A finer gauge wire will conduct electricity more efficiently but is not necessary for the Pentaflex pump.  I am running 10 gauge wire that you can buy at your local hardware store.  I you do want to pay more money for a finer gauge wire there is no problem and you do not need to use a heavier fuse.  I recommend using the circuit breaker that comes from the manufacture.  Every Pentaflex I have bought for the last 2 years comes with a circuit breaker from the manufacture.

I did have a problem with one of my first pentaflex pump when I tightened the positive terminal to the base plate of the pump too tight.  I had to buy a new baseplate to fix it.

today tried the pump again... was 99! degrees out and pump wouldn't even start. Definitly NOT te relay as I left the switch "on" and touched the terminals and you can hear the relay click, so its either the pressure switch (doubt since it never even primed) or just the "thermal cut off" which Im thinking is it. does this sound correct? I had a big azz box fan (in he shade) on it from the start, and nothing. faulty unit poss? anyone???
