I know Fred Winters, one of our old RCIA Members passed away some time ago, I just wonder if anyone here remembers Fred ?

Fred Winters was a Hero, as well as a heck of a nice guy. He wanted to get into roof cleaning, to help pay for his fishing charter boat, in the off season.

His loss was a great loss for the RCIA, as well as for everyone who knew him.

I consider it an honor, to have known him, and to have been able to teach him roof cleaning.

 Yes, I remember Fred.  It was a great honor to know a true Hero like him. 

Serving 27 years in the U.S. Army Special Forces.

He was a decorated veteran withhonors as the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, four Bronze Stars, including one with valor, and two Purple Hearts.

He also received 20 medals, four ribbons, five awards, six badges, three citations, and a Special Forces Tab. A 27 year veteran of the U.S. Army Special Forces.

I was hoping to meet him, but I did not get the chance.  He died too young and will be missed by many.

 He came to an informal RCIA get together at a state park on the little manatee river once.

He was a big guy, a "gentle giant", with a heart of Gold!!

He seldom talked about being Special Forces, unless he was asked. 

Not that I would ever want to have "messed" with Fred (he was much too big), but little did I know I was talking to a Man who could most likely take your heart out of your chest, and show it to you before you died.

He even offered to take me out fishing, at no charge, for all the training I gave him.

I regret I did not take him up on his offer, and get to know him better.
