I Got a call from a Chris H. He says Chris Tucker said to call me. He wants help with learning the roof cleaning trade. Is this guy a paying member here? Did Chris T say to call me? I think he is looking for on the job training. Shouldn't he learn the roof cleaning process first here at the RCIA. Then go practice on a friends house like most of us did. I myself have no time to train a newbe that knows nothing.

He is a paying member Art, and a home remodeling siding type guy, like yourself!
He was looking for someone he could watch, and learn from.
I figured being both siding contractors, you guys might make friends.

Chris from Ct. did call me and I did agree to let him observe some roof cleaning, but after thinking about I have decided against it for several reasons. #1 There is always a risk with insurance. #2 It will slow me down #3 Some people do charge for such training #4 Maybe if the guy was here a bit,had post and even called and talked roof cleaning before asking to come and see. Look we all worked hard here and I'm sure this guy Chris is a good guy, but I can't take anyone who calls out along with me. I had a new 5850 { not from Bob } burn out on me after a house and a half!.........Also Chris Tucker suggested Art........
my first house, with 0 training or experience i used 5 gallon buckets, didn't wrap the teflon tape around the threads but did so on the outside part, used anti bacterial dawn, burnt the hell out of myself, disintegrated my jeans, kept taking my drop stick out of my mix (which contained simple cherry) and my pump kept shutting off, took 5 hours to clean a 2500 sq ft roof ... that said the home owner almost cried as she looked how great the roof looked, payed me a $60 tip as my underwear was showing through the holes i put in my jeans, and i learned the most valuable lessons of my professional career.
some things are best to learn on your own. tell him to call bob, read these threads like the rest of us, practice with water first, then go make some money!

I suggested Art because the guy wanting to learn is a remodeling and siding contractor, like Art.
I thought they might have something in common, and were far enough away from each other to not be a problem.
The guy is TRYING to learn, he just sent me this.
Apple Roof Cleaning,
Christopher Haines has sent you a new personal conversation entitled "training ch".
Christopher Haines said: ====================================================================== thanks for your help-you tried.and I appreciate it. it should b obvious that from a learning point of view its better to learn from someone experienced than to try to recreate the wheel your self. Certainly I'm not in anyones backyard I called. RCIA should institute soe type of mentorship program.----I'd be willing to PAY for that. To me it would be worth it--shortening the learning curve. ======================================================================

This is a good example for the 100 post rule. He needs to get his post count up, then do some on the job training. He will get a better feel for whats going on.

This is also my thinking on the matter.
Most of us spent lots of time and $ learning to do this right.
If a guy had some special hardship circumstances, I would think differently. But a successful siding man can take the time to learn like the rest of us.
The "Search" feature here works great!
Plus, RCIA has every bit of knowledge needed, if anyone joins and makes the effort to do research.
What is RCIA for? Not to say "Call us up and we will take you to our job and in 3 hours, you will know everything!"
To lay it on a platter, at the cost of our own time [it takes time to explain and perhaps give a hands on example of doing the work]
I did do it once, because the guy was on the East coast of Florida and I had a job almost to Ft Myers, which needed a ground man and I wasn't feeling well enough to do it. So, I told him that if he would be the ground man, he'd see how it's done and that my son would give him a few minutes of hands on roof cleaning and explain everything.
He showed up in flip flops, spent most of the roof cleaning time on his cell and my son had to keep finding him and reminding him to water.
That job was 1 of 3 that I had plant damage on in the last year!
NEVER AGAIN FOR ME!
