This directory was once FREE ! I have an old web link in there, been in there for years. But, like many if not most "free directories" they come back on you for money! The bottom line is, you don't pay, you don't stay!
This is the way it is in most of the real world. Many RCIA Members did not renew their memberships, yet their links remain here.
Some do not even come here anymore, or add anything to the forum. I may have to re evaluate things. Why should they get a free ride, and enjoy promo posts that compete with our active paid members.

Chris, I agree that their links should be removed. Is there an easy way that can be done? We should give them one last chance to renew before their links are removed. I don't understand why they do not want an RCIA membership. A very small price for what your company gets.

A current paying member had me do a search for an ex member who is long gone from here, who still has promotional posts dominating his local search results, where a paying member lives and works!
Why should a paying member have to face the promotional threads of a non paying, inactive ex member ?
Chris this is a tough subject and an even tougher post. But you do have a good point and it doesn't seem fair and as we all know it that in life and business nothing is fair. If someone is given a chance to renew and doesn't then they shouldn't receive any free benefits regardless of there years of participation. Now I can see if a guys budget's are tight and it has been a long winter and try to avoid alot of big ticket items . I think if someone doesn't want to pay and they want to move on to a new forum then go but there should be no free ride. I belong to other forums but I don't post, I only post here, RCIA is my home and this place is the only place i post and I gladly pay my way. Ask Gary, because lately all i get is withdrawal after withdrawal on my debit card for renewals..... Just a joke Gary..
Gary, I can't think of any of my suppliers that try to take something back that I've already payed for. Taking down promotional posts that were made in the past should'nt even be considered. This was just discussed a week ago, and Chris, you said it wouldn't happen. Now you're considering? Well, it's your forum, do what you want, but this flip flopping is part of the reason you have lost so many premium members.
I agree. This issue reminds me of a bi-polar girl I used to date when I was 21. I think I argued this subject till I was blue in the face but I'm not going to lose sleep over it anymore.
Side note: IF your web site is being dominated by a forum post, you need to start doing some real SEO and stop posting on forums. IF your promo posts from ANY forum are out ranking your web site for your keywords, you are doing it wrong.
Your WEB SITE needs to be on page one of Google for your specific keywords .... NOT forum posts or promo post.

Its really NOT that tough. It is simple business planning. Just like paying for your insurance, chemicals, fuel, wages, equipment repairs, etc. When you know it is coming due, you plan and budget for it, or you go out of business. Nobodys fault but your own. How many of your other business suppliers let you slide and keep whatever you got from them to keep on usuing, while their other customers still have to pay for the same thing?

America had a policy of non intervention in foreign affairs, until Hitler was killing Britan, and threatening to take over the world.
America changed it's policy.
Alcohol was once illegal during Prohibition, that changed too.
What you call "flip flopping" I call responding to my members Chris.
Some of our paying members have showed me that they are facing promo threads from this forum in their local search results, made by people who are no longer here, and have no plans of rejoining.
Is that fair to them Chris ?
Any decision on this will be put to a vote, if it comes down to that, so you need not worry about me "flip flopping". We will do what the majority of people want.
I would assume it be difficult to make everyone happy here. Its sad when members become friends then they bail. I dont think its so much about money why guys discontinue their membership here. Take a guy like Ray Burke who chooses not to participate here any longer (for now, at least). I doubt its over $129.
I agree Ed, I like some of the guys that are no longer here so I'm less apt to vote on something that would hurt them no matter how insignificant the damage.
I do plan on re-joining, but this thread is called strong-arm tactics. What's more strong-arm than join the only pay forum and keep on paying forever or you'll lose all your promo posts and links. What good is a forum if all the members get chased off? Is there another way to monetize the forum? I really could care less what you guys decide, I have no links in my signature and only 4-6 promo posts, so it has no bearing on my seo. The only reason I plan on re-joining is to help support Chris and give back.
I agree with CT that when you stop paying directories, thats the end of your listing. It would of been much easier holding a staunch policy from the beginning. I'm a landlord, if you don't collect a late fee the very first time a tenant is late, it is very difficult to do so after that. The idea of removing links for non-payment has not been implemented from the beginning, so the tenants of this RCIA real estate have a tough time swallowing the new legislation. But again, I don't think that is why so many members have jumped shipped over the years.
