from Bob ... about a minute after I emailed him at 10:18pm

Mike,

The relay is a socket connection now for easier changes and the head is redesigned to get rid of the potential cracking problem in the bypass area. Besides that it functions the same.

Bob

I have never had any problems with the 5850, so I like to stay with what I know. They are 50 dollars cheaper too.

They do NOT spray like a Fat Boy Eric, nor do they shoot as well either.

If all I did was shingle roofs, and did not have a big air pump backed up by a big azz air compressor, I would own a Fat Boy or a Flojet Pentaflex.

But 1/2 or more of the roofs we clean down here in Florida are tile roofs!

These new Fat Boys look pretty cool, since they have made it easier to fix the relays now.

Try $80 cheaper. Powerwash has 5850 for $120 and the fatboy reg price is $200. My 5850 works great for now but just a matter of time until its death.

Ok now Im confused. Why does shingle or tile make a difference in the type of pump you use (air vs fat boy)? Does the air pump give better flow in longer hoses and a better spray pattern from the tip?

 The relay's are a bastard.

Why does it make a difference?

I have been eyeing up a pentaflex but they are over $400 I can get 2 fatboys for that price. I want to get one to try it out.

Eric.. they are the just a litte more beefy.

I run a ALL-FLO for the love and my 5850 is just for rinsing. As for the relays I had heard the can be a pain the the butt thats why I stay with the 5850. when i need more I just fire up the Hydrotek.

You can buy the Fatboy relays at any auto store. But there is one simple modification that must be made to the relay in order for it to operate properly. They're about $4.

If the 5850 is preferred over the Fatboy then so be it, but to take $80 into consideration on a pump that lasts a season, and is the key component to our livelihood seems crazy to me.

Tile roofs will always have much more run off then a shingle roof will. We always use smaller tile roof nozzles, but on many shingle roofs, we turn our monster air pump set up loose.

Yes, an air pump is superior in flow and pressure to a Fat Boy, if you give it enough air.

I only use fat boys for transfer pumps because they are cheap & I have several.  At current I am only using the Pentaflex for cleaning tile or shingle roofs.  It is more expensive and dependable than a fat boy.  Nothing worse than being on a roof and have a pump go out.  My pentaflex has been working over a year now with no problems.  Same with the last one.  And the parts to rebuild them are available.  I have rebuild both delavans and pentaflex pumps.  The internals on the pentaflex are much better.  Oh, by the way I am using .30 nozzles with no problems except that it pulses due to the the pressure switch but not as bad as the all flo pumps.
