For anyone wondering or perhaps hesitant to make the investment due to SH concerns ; Cougar Paw pads DO hold up well to SH. If your crew members ever walk an asphalt roof, Cougar Paws greatly enhance their safety in addition to other safety measures.
They do hold up well to the Sh but you have to becareful. As soon as they come off the roof rinse them real well and watch where you walk...you dont want to stain asphalt driveway or kill grass. I have two part time workers and I got them each a pair and they love them. You must inspect them before each job...when they wear down they just fail...let go of their grip....and that can be dangerous if you up there!
i just searched google for cougar paws, but shop around I got them from one site like 3o bucks cheaper then another. get like 3 refills should last the season.
I have been getting the flat grip soles from "Shoes for Crews". They work pretty good but have always wanted a pair of these. I think it might be time to dig deep and pick up a pair. How much are the replacement soles?
I pay somewhere around $15/pair for replacement soles. I usually get about 2 months out of a pair, but I seldom walk through the mix once it is applied. The SH will eat them up quick if your constantly walking in it.
It is a small price Ted you are right. And the guys notice the difference right away. They only wear them on the tougher roofs, easy walkables they don't.
