Salt is a killer too. Why we dont rinse the roofs, maintains a hostile environment on the roof.. The moss turns white and more brittle. something to make the moss more brittle sounds pretty cool!

You sure about those quanities?? A100 gal mix would require 50lbs of salt. I think only about only 30% would disolve leaving a big problem in your tank.

Am I wrong?

Water can dissolve and hold a LOT of Salt http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_much_salt_can_water_dissolve

How long do you think it would take to disolve 50 lbs of salt and how fast could you add the salt to your mix tank.

Are you suggesting only using salt on roof with moss? What about roofs with black algae and liken?

I've heard of using SODIUM Bicarbonate to kill moss,..Salt being the killing component it would seem. It may work on the typical black streaking we see on roofs,..but the main difference is the fact that salt doesn't instantly bleach out the color,..as liquid hypo does. The salt may work over time,...but who's gonna sell it?,....With confidence.

Hey Jeff do you really think it just is bleaches out the black algae? As that its still sitting on the shingle and still alive?

No, I don't think it only bleaches it,...I think it definitely kills it,... and there is more going on with bleach than just salt,...but the benefit of the bleaching affect is what gives the instant appearance improvement.

I already worry sometimes about the amount of salt residue being rinsed off of roofs onto shrubs and plants. Personally I don't want or see the need for anymore salt in my mix. I already worry enough!
