I have been in the trades all my life, whether im doing it on my own, or my friends. But i have never seen a trade were there is 2 sides! You got one company doing it the right way and another doing it wrong?

WHO ARE THESE GUYS WITH THE NO BLEACH SIGNS???????..

This year ive been in over 12 battles with hmo's that are torn between the 2 sides. (its been ridiculous)  I say the same thing over & over again.....

Do not allow anything on your roof.(meaning surface cleaner) wich is no differnet then a power washer.

Look up th ARMA web site and here are some #'s to call.. But yet i have lost these jobs to a bunch of hacks. Not only are they doing it wrong... Why would you want to? can you a imagine  carrying that thing up a roof? No wonder they cant do a roof with a 12-10 pitch.... It must take these guys 4 hrs to do 1 roof..

I know these pepole bought into a franchise and are being brain washed in telling the hmo that this is the right way, and are way is wrong. But now its starting to piss me off!  WHAT YOU GUYS THINK ABOUT THIS TOPIC? IS THIS HAPPENING TO YOU? I WANT TO KNOW .......................

Keeping with the thread title ... I have not seen the "no bleach" signs but have had a huge spike in homeowners ask if we use bleach. I give them verbal information and then attach the ARMA bulletin in PDF format with my estimate that states that we are using the only recommended method to clean asphalt shingles. The strange part is that the customers that ask if we use bleach will eventually get back to me two weeks later or more to schedule a cleaning but customers who don't ask will get back with me the same day or two days later. The only thing I can come up with is they were given bad info from a company that uses scare tactics and the homeowner takes some time to do their own research and realize we clean shingles properly and not with a pressure washer or surface cleaner.

I spoke with a HO (elderly woman) who wanted her roof cleaned, she told me her neighbor ruined the roof because he poured bleach on it. I said mam our solution is recommended by the shingle manufactures. After the job was done, she comes outside and says. It smells like bleach! Then she looked at her roof and handed me the money.

Dan,

Did I read this right you're traveling from Atco to North Jersey? I don't have anyone putting out signs of this type in my area. We've expanded into Northwest NJ and The Lehigh Valley and those are about 25 miles from the shop.

Hank

People will do anything to get business these days! With the internet, it can be a curse for some and a blessing for others! You have to educate your potential customers with information as to why you use what you use! You have to be able to defend your process, don't worry about the other guy. You'll find that regardless, you'll get the job if the homeowner feels confident of your services.wink

Its easy to get customers to choose the right method. Chlorination or power wash? There's no in between. If it seems your not getting through and the conversation is about to end, remind the customer that Clorox Clean-up is one of the finest disinfectant cleaners used in kitchens accross America. Bleach is used in laundry rooms in the finest hotels and hospitals. Bleach is used in the swimming pools that all the children swim in. And finally, if chlorine is so terrible, they may want to dig up the curb stop and cap the main valve to prevent the townships chlorinated water from getting into their homes water supply. Chlorine is a proven non-carcinogenic chemical. Is the other guys chemical non-carcinogenic? Do they have an msds to prove it? Are they even using a product that has any effect on the organism that are eating the roof? Or are they simply relying on pressure to blast the shingles clean?

If this doesnt win them over you can either give up or give them Chuck's phone number. Let him beat them over the head for a while. His arguments are Indisputable.

 Another reason for Certification!

Doctors and Lawyers say they are Board Certified, to get business away from their competitors all the time.

All it means is that they took, and  were able to pass a Board Certification exam.

My Doctor is board certified, and his office is always busy.

Right across the hall, in the same office building, is the exact same kind of Doctor, who is not board certified.

LOL, you probably don't even need an appointment to see him, his office is seldom crowded.

Good points, how can they even sell powerwashing to the homeowner? It baffles me. My sign was stolen from the entrance to a neighbor hood that we did a couple houses in by one of these no bleach guys. That was a very interesting phone call.

Pricing:

People who are desperate for work will sometimes jeopardize themselves just to get that one job over their competitor. What new or inexperienced business owners fail to realize is a market value has been set by individuals who have been doing that trade longer than them. Their idea is to undercut their price to get the job, and eventually take the competitions business! This is a bad idea! This is not being competitive! That's outright price gauging! This not only hurts your competition, but it will eventually hurt the bidder who won the job! You'll never get that customer to pay the original price again! What used to be a good profit margin has now been cut dramatically! Get to know your competition by introducing yourselves to each other! Discuss margins, not exact prices, no one should do that. But if I know the area that everyone else is bidding at, I'm going to come in somewhere around there. This keeps our prices where they should be. The point here is to work with one another in the industry! There's plenty of work for everyone! We have to work with one together and not be divided.biggrin
