JUst saw this advertisement for whirl a way surface cleaners and had to laugh, then shake my head in disgust......
I own 2 of these machines-but much better ones than the Whirl-Away.
Mine are Whisper Wash machines and I use them for "ONE" purpose, to clean driveways, sidewalks and cement parking lots. In a few cases, pool decks too-but only a few, that with experience, I know will benefit from it, with no damage.
Years ago, these were referred to as "Flat Surface Cleaners" or "Cement Surface Cleaners" only.
Now that the makers realize there are people dumb enough to haul them up on a roof, they advertise for it! I do wonder if they could be sued, when some dummy falls off the roof and this thing lands on his head?
The results of using these machines on a tile roof, look impressive from the ground, but up on the roof you will find a million small misses - inside corners etc. Plus, you will find chips and dig marks, where it occasionally hits the tile.
On shingles, it makes a pressure washing job look like a good thing!
These bad boys shoot high speed jets at an angle [ that's what creates the super speed spinning action ] and it will cut darn near half the granules right off a fairly new roof.
On an old roof, goodbye granules!
Oh, by the way, that weedeater haircut came out looking pretty good below!!!
