Anyone who has ever bought a used U-Haul truck can write about your experience in this thread. They seem like well maintained trucks. Can a truck with 160k + survive another 30-40k miles?

I just bought one last week with 210,000. Motor was replaced at 187,000. Only spent 3700 on it.😄

Im looking at a few 14' box. Im not crazy about a gas guzzling 460. But its better than making payments or dropping a bundle for something that we're just gonna grind to the bone.

160,000 + miles wouldn't concern me if the truck has been maitained. If you can pick one up for 3-$4000, just consider it disposable after 2 years and buy another. I just picked up a 2004 F250 with 167,000 for $3500.

I've had my U-Haul for about 18 months. The truck runs great, The Gas milage sucks and I go threw front tires quickly. But the truck has paid for it's self many times over.

No doubt Clyde. Im at a defining moment. Trying to remove many of the hats I wear. I have 3 trucks and looking to add a 4th. On top of doing sales, managing, marketing, answering the phone, etc, I also am responsible for fleet maintenance. I'd would rather neglect an ugly old U-Haul truck than something newer and more expensive. I can only hope to achieve a shiny new fleet of new trucks with nice laminated maintenance charts on the board where we can put smiley face stickers every time we change the oil or rotate the tires.

Ed, I bought a 1995 with 172,000 miles - $2000.00. I currently have 186,000 miles on it and it runs great! It does have the 460 and guzzles some gas, but it was well maintained. It had a newer tranny installed just before I bought it. Ask for the service records they will give them to you to show what has been done if anything recently before it was put up for sale. They like to go back and forth on price from my experience, just give them a figure and stick to it, they should go for it. I did have a problem with the ABS sensor due to the location of it, just pull the fuse and nothing to worry about (mechanic advised this). All in all you can't beat the price for what you want to do with it. It will pay for itslef in the first 2-3 jobs. Like Chris said, if it fails in 2 years buy another, that was my thoughts when I did it.

Actually just bought a 2006 extended Chevy 2500. Kind of stumbled accross it. Its a really long van. The issue in where I live is you need to be able to use the Garden State Parkway which runs North and South and is the life blood of a quick service business. There is a 7000lb weight limit but if your in a not-so-truck looking vehicle they dont seem to bother you. A U-Haul with duallies will surely get you nailed every time. Van has 150k picked it up for $4250 from a bank.
