We need to be consistent on how much information members should give to a guest. Should we give them the info, or just tell them to join?

The administrators should let us know how much information to give. It doesn't look right when some of us are telling guests to join first, and some of us are answering their questions in full.

I think we should provide them with reasons why they should become premium members and let it go at that. Just recently there have been some that are telling everything, partially because they did not re-new and lost their titles, so they are doing it for spite. The way some people thinkconfuseconfuse

Exactly, I'm guessing this is because of the insurance thread...
I was very nice to the gentleman and was trying to get him to join only to have another person undermine me basically. Whatever, I will keep doing what I did anyway.
I wasn't going to say anything but I'm glad someone did. lol

It's such a fine line when you have a closed forum compared to an open forum format. My sugestion would be for the forum administrators respond to all "guest" questions in the "General Public Discussion" section. Also, members should not post in this general information area because conversations get rolling and information WILL get posted that belongs on the private side.

Here is an example of a thread that is in the General Public Discussion area.

http://roof-cleaning-institute.activeboard.com/t47173970/door-hanger/

It gives the name of a company that produces them, an example of what one looks like, marketing tips on what's more effective when offering a discount and just about everything someone would need to get an effective door knocker campaign going. WTF???  I don't see anyone jumping all over this thread about giving out FREE information.

I'm just making the point that it is hard not to cross the line when posting in the General Public Discussion area. Let's not have members post there and that will take care of that issue. Make it a holding tank for potential members. It will also benefit the RCIA because the administrators will be able to take and answer the guests questions and answer them in a professional, courteous manner and at the same time admin. can let the guests know what a benefit it would be to join the RCIA without the guest feeling pressured into joining which I have seen in the past.

If they can't see the value of having years of experience and knowledge at their finger tips,,, The ROI of RCIA, is like roof cleaning, almost instant. Maybe give a limited pass for a trail and let them make up their on mind. I really like the survey approach to a lot of topics, gives you a feel for how others are thinking, working. I'm doing a post later today, The feed back that I will get from my fellow professionals will be most appreciated and will be most valued.

It is only 100 hundred dollars to join, I think it well worth it to start a small business!

I agree. No more free info, just to create instant competition.
If it's not worth $100 then let them leave.

I agree. I think a moderator should have deleted Will's comment giving him Joe's number.

With all these roof cleaning start ups popping up in PA, free advice is a thing of the past for me. There is no reason they shouldn't have to pay the minimal $100 to become a member.

Just because they are not in your area, it doesn't mean that they are not in some other paying members area. If we give up the info for free or let them take info from this site for free, then what value does being a premium member hold.

Hey Zack ... your over reacting my friend. In no way did I "UNDERMINE" you. Joe Walters is a dear friend to many here and if someone asks for an insurance recommendation, by god I'm going to give to them ... FOR FREE.

If a guest comes here looking for an insurance quote, get's told to join to get info on a great agent, then does not join....you took money out of Joe's pocket. That's a fact!

Sometimes it not "all about the money" OR "paying membership fee's and I think it a horrible thing when there are restrictions on giving a great guy a shout out FOR FREE.

I'll tell you what ... I have been a great contributor to this forum and never got caught up in any of the bullshit drama that happened here. This "lack of information act" that is going on NOW is rediculous and if you wish to ban me ... GO FOR IT!!!!

I never mentioned a ban or anything of that nature. I just sent you a PM.

I don't think we need to ban anybody. We just need to agree as a group and stand by that decision. I think both sides have valid points. Guests can obtain a ton of information if they use the search option.

I agree with Ray that giving Joe Walters or another type of vendor a shout out is no big deal, but I agree with this thread itself. How much information do you tell a guest? Since this is the " New Improved " RCIA giving out low level information is fine, but I have noticed these " guest " come on and ask several questions and evryone answers them, we all like to show our knowledge so its hard to resist. When a new guest ask a question lets see how many post he has....are they all " question that avoid reading and dedicating themselves "? When we see those " looking for quick " hand outs " lets respond professionaly and nudge them toward premium membership. If we see someone has instructed them to become a premium member lets not repeat it in that thread. We have to think " OF ALL THE MEMBERS " while giving out information, to ensure that these guest become CERTIFIED so that we protect home owners as well.

Downside would be the google side of things. There would be less general posting causing a loss in SERPs. I think.

I think Barry and Ray make great points on the above, solid members that contribute and share the same perspective, why leave money on the table is my new mission this year.

Supplying detailed information to non-members is kind of simple, if what to play, you have to pay. It's the America way. We all have paid for a education in one way or another. This site might grow best by creating good member exchanges and related association benefits. This industry is going to grow and the key to it's growth is consumer education. I would support any consumer oriented material that creates useful marketing, industry reports or studies that would help me grow and sell more work. I do a little side concrete work and I refer to the concretenetwork.com all the time. We offer concrete and stamped and some general contracting to my customers and friends, I hope someday to make enough to cover my RTC overhead, we are "front end" heavy right now. I need to get back on the ladder.
