I would try to try to a tree, chimney or cast iron bathroom vent.
An anchor is obviously preferred but most places are without.

 I hear you Zach, I probably shouldn't of posted what I did, I use this quite often, I strongly encourage all roof cleaners to take time to be safe, it only takes one fall and that could be the last one.

If your talking about tying off on a shingled roof 8/12 and up I would find the roof truss on the ridge, lift a cap and screw the roof anchor to the truss,after I am done I caulk the screw holes and then nail the cap back into place or you can always pop a roof vent off and tie off to the truss inside the roof depending on how easy the roof vent will come out.

 Ninno, good info, I agree with you, but I just wouldn't want the customer to know I did this because I'm afaid the day his roof leaks he will remember me, that would be one of my concerns

I have been roofing for some time now and I never had a leak doing it that way better to be safe than sorry, I think the home owner wouldn't mind they would probally like to see you tied off rather than lying on their front yard gibbled up like a preztel, if a safety inspector drives by and see's you tied off to a tree or porch or a bumper on a truck get ready to pay some fines!  

I did not say you were wrong, but I would not remove a roof vent to attach an anchor. Most houses around me aren't built with trusses either so it would not work regardless. No shingles should be removed at all because they will not re-adhere to themselves 90% of the time. You would have to be resealing all the shingles that you lifted/removed.
