I'm glad you're ok Mike.  I had one foot slip on me the other day when I was straddling a peak.  That's what I get for wearing work boots on a roof..  My harness and shock cord were in the truck of course.

I'm not on roofs much, due to the bucket truck and my tri-pod ladder, yet I'm seriously thinking about cougar paws even though the sole inserts don't hold up to SH well.

 One last comment...I see what appears to be your wife and child in your picture. Imagine what effects it would have on them if you fell and were seriously injured or worse. Nuff said.

Good for you! All I have to do is look at my top man's three kids and realize how I would feel if I knew I didn't do everything possible in my power to keep their dad safe. We use AC's temp anchor and it works great. But...it isn't for a high pitch roof. For that, you need to install ridge anchors, often several for larger roofs. When the pitch is too high there is a chance the temp anchor will pull up and out with the angle. My top man has construction and roofing experience and we install and charge the client for the anchor install. Otherwise, partner up with a roofing contractor (not a bad idea anyways in case you see repairs which need to be done, then you have somebody to refer people to). Also, the ground man should be trained to monitor the top man for safety. When I act as ground man, a common thing I see has been the top man getting too much line length near the center after traversing to the edges. The line length puts him too close to the edge and I have to have him back the traveller up the roof to make sure if he slips he doesn't go over. Hanging by the harness sucks, though it is better than hitting the ground...but better to stop before you reach the edge. When you anchor up and traverse a big roof, this is all too easy to do in the middle. The bottom man should also watch for lines which get caught on vents, plus tripping hazards. Nearly every job I've gone on, I have at some point spotted something which the top man, who was concentrating on the job at hand, missed. That is also why I emphasize we use a two man crew to our clients. The emphasis on safety landed me a $1500 job today...took it right out of the paws of the pressure washer guy when I pointed out our approach to safety. The manager of the building remembered the guy doing gutter cleaning last year.... up on top...with no safety harness. The minute I pointed out his potential liability if he fell...along with the fact we do the cleaning the correct way...he literally called the other guy and cancelled the job they had just booked and then booked with us.
