gutters are starting to get crazy, just hired another guy and we're out a month ... do you guys set specific dates for gutter cleaning? i did originally but my last few i just said that we'll be there the week of XYZ and i"ll leave an invoice. haven't had a customer refuse but didn't know how it goes. also, do most of you use the generic invoices from staples and attach your business card or do you get them customized? i feel like mine are kinda flimsy and wonder what my competition does.
yeah its been pretty crazy lately ... my summer was pretty much limited to 4 jobs a week, and i did a ton of canvassing in september, plus my search engine rankings are getting higher, with referrals and this nice weather, the flood gates really opened up ... i'm planning on having both my guys do the gutters and i'll do the pressure/soft washing and roof cleaning. the key for me is to make sure i go door knocking for at least 2 hours 5 days a week ... looks like you're rocking and rolling out there too!!!
I know my signs are working. Here is a comment I received on my blog today. Think I should approve this comment?

Mike - I'm originally from Ohio and now live in Fla. 90% of the homes here do not have gutters completely around the house. They usually have them in the front only approximately 20 to 25 lin. feet. Been wondering if I can make any money at them. What would you charge for something like that? What do you do with the debris from them? If you are not washing the home, do you just rinse the drippings that may get on the gutter and the home with a water hose or pw?

Al, I took Mike's (Gutterdogs) advice and use a blower. I have a groung guy that just uses an attachment on a garden hose to rinse. If they have low pressure or the gutters are to high we'll break out the pressure washer.
I'd like to say that I charge by the linear foot, but I've just been eying it up. I discount if they get additional services but I've typically been charging bt $150-$200. Since I do a lot of canvassing it's an easier close and often leads to add ons.
Mike, I use forms from staples and rubber stamp them with my name, logo and phone number.
good to know I'm not too far off. I've been getting email addresses & sending them before & after pics, it's gotten me a few referrals as they simply forward to friends/coworkers.

I write it on the back of my business card so I know they'll have it. Gotta disagree on the leafblower/pw for gutter cleaning though. I put everything in a 5 g. bucket and throw it in the woods. Its not really cleaning if the debris lands on the ground.
If you have Microsoft Excel 2007 or later, you have 15 or more templates for invoices that you can personalize. You can always print out a few blank ones or if you have the total beforehand, print it out and take it with you. You can also create a PDF and email the invoice to the customer.
Cleaning gutters in Texas would be very messy if you did it with a leaf blower! Dumping 5 gal buckets in the woods would be risky also!
I'm confused?? What is risky about dumping gutter debris in the woods?? Here in Jersey at least Northern jersey there are woods everywhere and most people here usually have a spot just of their yard where they dump grass or branches.
or you can just bag it and dispose of it properly ... i'd agree that "it's not really cleaning if it lands on the ground" if we just left a glob of wet leaves or granules sitting on their landscaping. the ground guy picks up what he can, rinses the house and exterior gutters with a hose or pw, and then we blow the leaves away from the house to blend in with the rest of the yard. If the landscaping looks more like a museum than a front yard we put everything but dry leaves in a 5 gallon bucket (for a premium).
bagging debris is an up charge. The debri that fall on the deck or ac unit whatever is blown off. and spread out in the grass large clumps are broken up.
Remember there is the newbie lowballer out there. To maintain a bottom line you cant be there for more than 15 min. And still try to be compettitive with his advertising and percieved value of the job.
Using water is always a no no.
There is some skill and systems we use to keep from getting debri on the outside of the house which does need to be rinsed off, that takes more time.
I always use water, then again, I'm not worried about completing with anyone. I bag em and flush them out. It does take longer, but we are in and out relatively quick unless the house is a PITA!

Roof Cleaning and Pressure Washing in Anne Arundel County, and Howard County, Maryland
I don't see how you can be in and out in 15 min. I usually do them alone and depending on house(if you can walk the roof or not) I'm there a least an hour. And I don't use water but in the fall I do blow off the roof purely for customer loyalty.

check out billingboss.com, i can create and print a professional looking invoice in something like 3 minutes, and its free. i like to scoop and flush gutters that way I have confidence I'm not leaving the ho with clogged downspouts.
