Pushing for state licensing to be a roof cleaner

In Florida, this licence would require the same books, examination and time away from home, that a general contractor license requires { In Gainsville I think? } to take the test. If I remember correctly, the cost is over $500.00 too. It's not a simple thing.

You have a good point .! Old AC Contractors started to bitch when it was discovered they would need a license to buy Freon, but guess what ? They jump for Joy now because it stopped low priced fast buck artists.

If anyone has ever worked a licensed trade, may say different. It really does not protect much of anything just a cash cow for the Gov.
License for this license for that we are tattooed to the hilt in numbers.

Drivers License #
Contractor license #
State registered #
City Registered #
County Registered #
Federal Tax #
State Tax #

Everything we do is tracked and monitored and taxed... our banks what we spend where we spend,
The licensing for a roofing contractor in Fl. requires 50k in either a bank or collateral... why I do not know.
I would expect a mandatory insurance liability policy etc. to cover the unlikely event you damage something.
But to be licensed to do roofs you need 50k in the bank or put up your house, cars,boat whatever as assets on top of everything else.

Who here has 50k to set aside so the gov feels warm and cozy at night?
What is to say this would not align with getting a roofing license requirements?
The gov can be a little to high & mighty and your average guy takes it up the arse!

One other note licensing was created to protect the consumer from serious injury occurring from an unlicensed contractor re-wiring your house and cause a fire or a remodeling guy adding an addition and making sure it does not collapse and kill the occupants.
We don't alter or change structures, plumbing,wiring things that can cause great harm if done incorrectly. We clean things. Risk level is minimal unless you hit the owner with some chems.

Every trade will always have low ball hacks whether a state license is needed or not. A State License for roof cleaning or pressure washing is the last thing we need.

As a painting contractor in Florida each county has their own requirements.I carry a "Specialty Contractor" license for 3 counties.Pinellas county requires an additional 14 hours of continuing education every 2 years. It's a little rediculous.However I could see a basic background & financial stability check.

Some counties do not require any license. I do not believe Manatee requires 1. I do know Hillsborough,Pinellas & Pasco do.
