Alright I've done tons of reading, but still alittle confused on the %% of SH to water. From what I've read around 30% Sh  and 70% water is right around the magic mix for shingles. Not bringing up Ammonyx or anything yet.

Doesn't that cut the 12.5% down around 5 something %. If so how is that better then store bought other than the price for the SH.

So confused. Can someone enlighten me??

I purchased 1 gal. bottle of 10% SH from Ace to do a test spot and it was horrible. Just wasn't as hot as fresh 12.5% and results were sub-standard.

opie, to make it simple, if you have a 100 gallon drum, use 30 gallons sh, 70 gallons water ... that's a good starting point

1) roof kit from PT, which you already ordered
2) SH which it seems like you got
3) ammonyx
4) 55 gallon drum that you can get for free from a car wash & mix on site
5) water

when you get to the job site, fill your drum with 15 gallons SH, 35 gallons water, add your ammonyx, stir like crazy

bag the downspouts, water the landscaping, turn the pump on, start spraying

you can read til your eyes bleed but you'll learn a lot more once you get going

AC,

Am I reading your chart correctly? Most roof cleaners use 50/50 on shingle roofs? That's an extremely hot mix! I posted on the open side that we use 30/70 and that is plenty. In some cases we have to pre-treat or go over probem areas but never use over 30% SH.

Ray i like your signature/logo, real clean ... i'm reading that chart the same way, i've only done about 50 or so roofs this season, none of them tile, and i've never went more than 30% ... only had to apply a 2nd application on one roof

what you reading is the old way that he does not recommend. 50/50. the new mix is either 20/80 or 20 /70 definetly not 50/50. read it again and you will see what im talking about.

Mike D...this is what I was talking about. Who uses this much SH on shingle roofs? If I'm still missing something here, please "splain" it sloooowwwwwwww for me.  And thanks for the compliment Mike T.

============================================================

Traditional 50 / 50, 12% Bleach and Water Mix

This is the traditional roof cleaning mix that many roof cleaning companys use on shingle roofs. It is wastefull and contains huge ammounts of salt which is poison to plants.

Add Water To The Tank First. (100 gallon tank example)

Water50 Gallons
**Liquid Bleach (SH 10%)50 Gallons

Contractors Surfactant128 Liquid US Ounces
 Completed 100 Gallon Cleaning Solution

ray theres your explaination hope this helps. Why does everyone find the negative and emphasize on that? AC has three mixes that he suggest to clean different things. He clearly states do not use this mix(50/50).

To answer your original question about it being the same strength as store bought SH.... The percentages of free chlorine may seem the same, but the free radical chlorine tries to release much easier when it is fresh and cut with water than stale store bought SH. Store bought SH has conditioners to try and slow down the release of the chlorine. Remember the release of free chlorine on the roof is what creates the visual results. That's why in the winter the same stuff will not work as well. The chlorine does not want to release under 50F.

So when you buy store bought SH you really have no idea how strong it is as that will be dependent on how long it has been packaged. You will notice that store bought SH will not release it's leftover free chlorine well enough to get the results desired. The fresh SH in solution releases it's chlorine rapidly once exposed to organic matter. creating the cleaning results we are all accustomed too.

That's what I see too and 50/50 is too high, even if your SH is only 10%

Plus, you can't assume 10%, you have to state it. I use 25-35% on shingles and that's plenty strong enough!

I also see RCIA members being redirected to AC's site! {Not giving you a hard time AC, it just seems inappropriate?}

If RCIA was mine, that would definitely be against the rules. no

Copying and posting that chart here, would be a different story. biggrin
