wasnt quite sure where to post this. can anybody help me price a job. i've got a 60x120 tennis court made of cement i need to powerwash. i have no idea how to price this job. i dont do much concrete other than a sidewalk here and there. can you share some insight on the situation. i don't have a surface cleaner but i've done some patios before and i don't mind the extra time spent not having the surface cleaner. gonna be sealing it with green sealer after. just wondering if somebody could help me price the pressure washing. PM me if you don't want to post pricing details. thanks in advance, james

I'm currently on a large job where as the H.O. hired a guy to redo their court and the guy had his help P.W. it with a standard green tip, poor bastard took a day and a half to finish just cleaning. I laughed with the G.C. that didn't know the guy because with a wheeled surface cleaner the same job (just the PW end) could have been completed in 2-3hrs prob. Look into renting one if your not up to buying but make sure it is wheel assisted, the ones that just have a brush around the edge are a bi'otch to push, hence loss'd productivity. Make sure fully dried (obvs.) before sealing (not sure if you'ved done this before) or else moisture deep down will cause blistering or whiteish spots.
Im gonna jump in here and sound like a debbie downer but if you don't know what your doing as far as cleaning a court you should probably pass on this one. Tennis courts, shuffle board courts and any type of surface like it can get damaged very easily if you don't know what your doing. Ask me how I know... Any high pressure and or the wrong chems on a court like this can cause serious damage and cost YOU a lot of $$'s. A good house wash mix, some dwell time and a flooding rinse is your best approach. I just don't want to see you or anyone saying "OMG, what did I just do"...This is just a heads up. If your gonna tackle the job do some research first.

even on a cement court?
Is it a grass court? LoL... They are all made of cement/concrete. The problem is that many of them have surface coatings that differ from other types of coatings such as paint, stains, sealers etc. Need to be sure whats on the court.
You CAN use a surface cleaner (Many do) but you need to change to the right size tips in order not to damage the surface.

LOL ... the way he worded his question I assumed there's nothing on the surface. if it's truly just concrete he should be fine but if there's paint with sand mixed in, sealer, or obviously any rubberized material then I agree, I might pass on it.
another huge concern is that you need to make sure they are pitched so that they will drain or you will never be able to get it clean, rinsing is a huge concern, a vacuum recovery system would be the best.
I would be real careful, courts are usually sealed. Even Concrete ones!!
Be real careful and test anything your using. If you know the court is just and old concrete surface then your worries are greatly reduced.
Damage is very easy on this type of surface as Larry pointed out. any type of sport courts can be vary difficult and require special care.
Do your homework, charge what you think you need to make. Its a four hour start to finish with the right chemicals and procedure. Some may take 2 hours, 4 is the max I have ever spent on the worse one I ever did. I do basketball courts full size in 30 minutes.
Keep in mind its all about water access and the correct chemicals. 12% is not always the best because they use a stain on these and the 12% will harm the pigment.

wow great advice guys. i haven't been on here in a while, missed yall lol. i'll also add to this that this court is about 4 feet from a seawall on the river. its been flooded a few times and hasnt seen any sealer or cleaning in quite a few years. the homeowner is a good customer of mine and he just wants to make it look better. it looks like bare cement, very smooth, lot of mold and mildew on it. you can barely see where the lines used to be. i'm just gonna rent a surface cleaner and knock it out. after that he'll be sealing some cracks and then i'll be back to seal it. he's getting the sealer and said it would be a learning experience for the both of us lol.

By the sounds of it I think you will be just fine with a SC on it then. I didn't realize it was for a residential. (Not that you should't take precautions and do it right). Thought it was for a PM that was gonna hold your nads to the fire if it got screwed up.
Good luck with it and let us know how it goes....Lots of pics. We all like pics.
