How do you keep Sodium Hydroxide from turning into big hard clumps, and what kind of mask should you wear to protect your self from breathing in the dust particals????

I have a bucket full of clumpy hydroxide right now. I keep a huge screwdriver near the bucket to break it up before I make a batch. I love that stuff. But man it's nasty getting it on your skin.
