Customer Not Happy With Results

And that would be my wife. hmm Fist job and used my house. Used a 35% - 65% mix and 30 oz's of surfactant (named after a girl I dated in high school) in 55 gallon tank. It was hot today and the stuff steamed up like a mutha! The roof dried and here are the results. One picture taken with polarized glasses. From the ground, I shot a small area with the garden hose after these pics were taked and it cleaned up ok.

Did you try to cool the roof down with water before spraying it?  This will help with the evaporation of your mix and help with the residue left behind.

No pre spray down with water and at around noon when laying it down, the mix was steaming on the shingles.

On a possive note: Equipment worked flawless and my ground guy did a great job (my 13 year old son). Even though it is our house, he made me pay him......He made more than me today!  haha

You can either rinse with water and see if you get the results you are looking for or. What I would rather do is wait for a good rainstorm and check your roof. Seems like a good rain does a better job of rinsing. I ran into the residue issue on my first roof. Looked all white and had a brownish tint to it. After it rained the roof looked great.

It's tough to wait and I know how you feel when you want to see instant results but next time prewet the roof then spray the mix, hit any stubborn spots again, then let the rain rinse.

Thanks for the advice Craig (i'll be able to sleep a little better tonight). I know there a only a few that rinse so I guess one of my selling slogans could be:

"wait for the rain, see the suds now go and tell all your buds"!!! biggrin

Here are some pics of a roof I treated last month.  This roof was pretty bad, so we treated the entire roof and I went back a second time & hit some spots.  They dried with the white lines on them.  Two days later we had a good rain and I went back and took the two "after" pics.  The brown haze is just dead algae waiting for the rain and after it comes, everything looks good.

Ed,  the original post was removed from the open side I believe.

This topic was reopened on the premium side.  All content on this post was posted on premium side if that was your concern which is understandable.

That first pic is just like my results. Your afters pics look great. I just need a good rain, which has been pretty rare here in Tallahassee lately. What's your explanation for "a instant gratification" customers?

the rain does a much better job of cleaning than rinsing with a water hose Think it has something to do with the PH of rain water
In my portfolio I keep 3 pics of each roof Before Just after and After rain and explain to the customer(your wife in this case) that it will come clean after the rain or I will do it again free I also let them hold the last $100.00 of the job so they know I am coming back

That's crazy! Too many $100 to keep track of. You just tell them that the light yellow is the dead algae and that once it rains it will look like new PERIOD. If they want instant gratification then you charge an extra $100 or more to rinse it. The only time that that is really needed is if the house is for sale. I have never had a problem. If you leave and there isn't any black streaks on the roof then the job is done right.

Macky, we haven't had a noticeable rain in three weeks ourselves. I tell them to wait 48 hours and use a garden hose if they are in that much of a hurry. You can always go back two days later (after the mix has lost some strength) and rinse, but charge extra because that's a "value added service," not a freebie. If you want, you can use those pictures until you have a few of your own.

this isn't an original thought as i stole the line somewhere on the forum ... "i can rinse it for you right now if you'd like but if you let it dwell and allow the rain to rinse off you'll have a nicer roof that will stay clean longer" ... i've only cleaned about 20-25 roofs so far but its worked every time so far ... and thank you to the person who came up with that line

I agree with Dave on this one. Your two mistakes here was not wetting down before hitting it and your mix was to weak.

Dave great advice and will take it.

Like I said, the mix was steaming as it hit the roof and was dry in 10 minutes or less. I also like the "instant gratification" charge!

Note: anyone not wearing a mask with chlorine rated filters on a steaming SH covered roof is asking for trouble! Please wear it.

Macky

Mix to week? 35% SH? It's June and here in Florida and I'm sure it's fresh. They go thru the stuff like a bottled water salesman in the desert!
