How to clean around a dormer
Permalink

I searched the forum and didn't really find much on how to clean around a dormer. Take a look at this photo. Let's say the the wood siding on the sides of the dormer has been stained with an oil based stain. How should you spray the solution on the roof without getting it on the dormer? If overspray gets on the wood and you wash it off immediately, the cleaning solution would also get rinsed off the shingles. Would you use something to cover the sides?

Mist dormer real good with water and spray your solution. You can also use pump up sprayer around dormer to control your overspray if you would like. The run off that you are speaking of will not be that much from rinsing the dormer IMO just keep misting it real good.

couple of ways to go.... first way, SOAK THE WOOD before you even begin spraying, then spray as usual around the dormer and immediately wash off.
Second way, take a 50% solution in a pump up sprayer and clean a 3 - 4 foot radius around the dormer, then rinse well. The second option is the safest way and best until you get a few OIL BASED HOUSES under your belt. Remember to keep the eave drips/facia wet too! Been there, re-stained that!!!
