I am pleased to announce one of the World's leading Algae Research Scientists from @@@@@@ University is applying for a US Government Research Grant into a very unique ECO Friiendly way to kill Algae. We may need field testers down the road if the research proves to be successful. We plan to "erect" a "house" that will be roofed by old, algae infested shingles, so we can test our theories in a real world environment. Hopefully, a small section of land at @@@@@@ University in @@@ @@@@@@@ can be fenced off as a research site.
The study of Algae is called Mycology, and is an emerging sub science. I must warn everyone, w/o revealing this research, I can tell you if this scientist is successful with his theories, it will forever change the roof cleaning world. RCIA Premium Members will have access to this technology first.

Interesting. I like the whole ECO friendly, biodegradable mind set. Yet, as a country we are the worst violators. LOL
The good Professor will soon be requesting some info on RCIA Letterhead to back up his request for a research grant for one of his Doctorate Students. And why NOT ? Our Government wastes billions on aid to Pakistan to harbor Bin Laden. I should think they can grant a few hundred thousand into research that will impact 75 percent of American Homes ?

Actually as a country we are far from the worst violators . Have you heard of an outfit called the EPA? What do you think all the emissions testing on your car is about? What about all the recycling cans everywhere? Many of our rivers and lakes are cleaner than they were in the past. There are more trees in US than there were a hundred years ago.! The USA is much more "green" than it used to be and far ahead of any second or third world country.
The fact that there is so much concern from our customers about chemicals we use and new government rules should indicate to you that we are NOT the worst offender!

Watch Al Gore's movie about global warming. Though we ARE getting better, we still are the world's worst polluter, as far as greenhouse gasses goes, with China and us neck and neck.
You are right about third world countries, but they are so small compared to us and China.
Im 30 and ill be retired by the time this stuff comes out. Or the new roofs wont allow growth by then...
NO, this stuff is avaliable NOW, it is already "out", just no one knows about it, nor is it being marketed for roofs.
It has already been proven to kill bacteria and all kinds of other nasties. We just want to test it on blue green algae, but we think we already know the answer
It is so amazing, that if it was not one of the World's Top Mycologists that told me about it, I would say bullshit! Once he told me what it was, I started reading about it, and said "OMG".
And no, it is not nanotechnology, although that does have promise! Titanium Dioxide coatings can work to prevent algae, according to the Doctor. But that is not what this stuff is.
This sounds very intriguing. Thanks for keeping us up to date Chris. It shows that the RCIA is interested in change, if it is beneficial. And providing the best and safest product available. I cant wait to hear more. California is a rough place to use our chems.
Hey Chris,.my main concern on anything replacing hypo,..is simply performance. My following questions are real, and not meant to sound rhetorical.
Sure,..there are currently chemicals right now that will kill the GM,..but does it equall the performance of hypo? Has this guy read much about roof cleaning here on the RCIA to understand what he is up against trying to replicate the performance of liquid hypo?
This guy may be way behind and doesn't understand how far other products have been tested. If this stuff already exists,..then why the need for testing and thousands of dollars worth of research?
Until someone puts something in my hands and I get to try it,..I won't beleive anything.
On another note: I've never been sure if the shingle companies want to change the composition of their current product,.they may want it to "aestheticly" fail prematurely,.. they don't have to warrant it because the product isn't failing in performance,...but they figure people will replace prematurely,.. simply due to curb appeal. Seems like they could have resolved this issue by now,.I don't know.
Well, for what it's worth, my neighbor (a chemist for the DOW corparation) and I have been chewing on that very thing. Not only is he my neighbor but a good friend so he is pulling some strings and seeing what he can come up with. The TSP thing is an issue in much of the local area which led me to the idea of an genuinely ECO freindly solution which in turn led me to the discussion with him and it's gone from there.
Much like the previous posts on this thread the results are very promising and will expound further when I have the the exact formula.
For todays Cool Roofs, the manufacturers are using granules dipped in Titanium Dioxide to give them the reflective qualities. The cool roofs are $$$$ and turn in to mirrors on sunny days so the average consumer here in Houston shy away from them. I've put a few on and I've seen GM algae show up after 8 years, so I'd have to say the Titanium Dioxide dipped granules aren't the end of the roof cleaning.
