Electric heat tapes inside copper tubing installed in gutters

I have a client that is concerned about the damage that may becaused to his 50 year old de-icing system that he has on his house roof gutters. It is basically a heat tape inside copper tubing. Will the chlorine mixture damage the tubing, and will it cause any harm to the section of his roof that is "Rubber". There are no stones on top of the rubber roof, it is glued down. Most of the roof is shingles. Thank you for your help. I searched first but foung nothing. Don

Don, from what I have picked up on here, it would damage if left on for some time as the SH being corrosive. It may change colors, but I would rinse it before/after your done spraying. There was a suggestion as to spraying copper with a non stick cooking spray and it worked for them. I had a tile roof I did that had copper flashing and copper roof dormers, we did nothing special and had no issues.

As far as the rubber roll roofing we tested the material before we used it on our trailer. We found it to do very well, we left a piece is sh for about a week and it did well.

Gas on the other hand caused it to breakdown a bit.

RInse the flat roof when your done to be on the safe side and you should be good to go.

Read the KEY words again and you will see that the heat tape is enclosed in copper tubing inside the gutter, out of sight. No worry about about dis-colorization. Being inside the tubing, there will be NO contact to the heat tape. If it was not a sealed system, it would have NEVER lasted 50 years, which I doubt that info also.

Thank you, and yours too! Maybe we will cross paths somewhere down the line. Good luck this year and all of those to follow.
