We all know what this is. A friend gets a hit outside his area, or just too busy.

 How do you handle it?

Michael,

I have been sending out a $25 visa gift card/coffee shop card/gas card etc. to anyone who refers me and I get the work. I thought about giving cash but came to the conclusion that a gift card is better. Cash is easily used and forgotten quickly, a gift card could be pulled out numerous times before it is used up and will always remind the recipient of where they got it from. I feel they may tend to put your name out there more if they are continuously reminded of your company (kind of like a refrigerator magnet). I'll offer this to anyone but it definately gets the attention of friends, family, and a few realtors.

lets get this going! 5 paid member views and nothing?!? lol!!!

To get this going I'll say a lil.

I've never recieved or paid one. Done and gave the work.

I'm thinking diff next year! Somebody helps you out, send em a check? There helping build your business. 10%? Even if they dont ask for it! (They can give the work to someone else?).

This is diff with work I throw out. 2011. Roofs. I've already sold the customer on roof washing, and our way. XYZ washes the same way! He services your area. heres the #. The job is yours! (I've done this before!). This is a lead that I sold for ya! Just show up.

Maybe I'm just feeling the pinch right now, like we all do. Not a way to make money this time of year, unless I hook up a Florida yelow page thing, lol!!!

What are your thoughts on kick backs?

Mike... I'm thinking about the one we heard this past weekend in Fairfax. 15% for closed deals, 10% for other leads. The gift card is a really good idea!

I give away quite a few jobs every year. My web site ranks very well in my area, and I get calls from people well over an hour from me. I give those jobs to people I know will handle those customers the way that I do. I don't ask or expect them to give me anything for the referral. I just ask that they handle the customer in a professional and courteous manner. That customer could be referral for me in the future.

In return, I have received referrals from the guys that I have given work to and it has paid out much better than any referral fee.

Bill Booz handles his referrals a little differently. He pays out a percentage to anyone that refers him a job. Even if you tell him you don't want it, he still sends it to you. That is just his policy.

I pay referrals to realtors. I send them a fee as soon as I am done with the job. It keeps them motivated to refer me for other work.

Brian

I have never given a fee or expect money from anyone. I just want more business and I want them to return it. I have gotten bit and learned but I think if you are a good person and do good to others it will come back to you. (Pay it forward) I work with a lot of gutter guys, contractors, roofers, window washers, stucco and masonry, power washers and roof cleaners and-If you help me I will help you. I may be wrong but it has worked for me.
It is hard, I always say---In business it is hard to know if you are doing the right thing or not??

A fee guarantees no feelings are hurt. If I throw you big jobs, you throw me lil jobs. The equilibrium is a fee?

Like the 40 apt comples roofs I gave to a roof company. Or vice versa.

EDIT: Not the way i been doin stuff. Just thinking? What is fair?

I give people $25 for referrals. I pay them AFTER I clean the roof. 8% of my jobs this year (my first year) were from referrals. Chris Tucker recommended reading a book called "the worlds greatest salesman". This author highly recommended paying people for work they get you. It's a tax write off, also. Why wouldn't you want your "unofficial, cheap salespeople" getting you jobs?

Joe Gerard is a Sales genius. All referrals should be paid.

I'm still learing how things are done. Or should be done as awarness grows. Some things I figured out.

The gift card. $25. In Maryland you can do this to a Realtor, and not get in trouble.

Uhh, giving a card, good at a grocery store. Not good. Just my 2 cents. Give em a card to a nice meal! Applebees.

Thats residential. Commercial... How do you reward commercial accounts? (the guys that got em).
