Will there be advertisements? If so who what and where?
I am for advertisements because it will fund the RCIA and help us with things like membership benefits and all.
I am however against "the man" so its a tough topic.
Maybe a good idea to entice new membership by having a home page rolling flash of paid members' logo's?

Don't know if "advertisments" per say, is a good idea or if it will even work with the forum software. I can tell you that very shortly ALL vendors will be required to pay a monthly fee to promote their products and services on RCIA. That in itself will generate some substanstitual funds yearly. I'll look into the advertisment idea. You planning on charging members for a rolling banner ad of their company?? Just curious. Gary

No Gary, I just thought it would help make paid membership look juicy. Could be a member perk.

Congrats to you and the other Board members for giving your time and efforts in making the RCIA better.
As far as suggestions I'm sure you will get many. What might be helpful and time saving for you and others is to post an outline of the items the Board is already considering. By doing this you can avoid having to respond to a suggestion already noted as being addressed by the Board. Some of these items may have been presented in other threads but I think having all of the Board's ideas in one post as a Sticky would be helpful to the Board and members. This list could be updated as new ideas are considered.
My suggestions at this time are:
1. Any organization (doesn't matter if its a corporate entity, non-profit or volunteer organization) should have and operate under a set of by-laws. By-laws set the rules and regulations as to how an organization will be run and define how members (both Board & regular) can operate within the organization. A copy of the by-laws should be posted with a sticky for the members.
2. Financial disclosure. Financial disclosure should probably be addressed in the by-laws but I mention it here only to make you aware of my experience of serving on several volunteer and business boards. Financial disclosure is for the protection of the Board members and to provide information to regular members as to how their money is being used. I assure you that without financial disclosure the Board will come under criticism.
3. This suggestion deals with how to navigate within the fourm. I would like to see a Paid Member tab at the top along with Recent Post, Home Page, etc. I would just name it "Members" since everyone else is now considered a guest. If possible I would like to see these same tabs appear at the bottom and top of the page. That way you don't have to scroll back to the top to select another area.
I would like to see the certified sections that we want the homeowners to see be cleaned up. I know it would take awhile but if you are a homeowner you just want to see the work someone has done and not the rest of the good works, or great job stuff. If we lock those for no comments I think it would look better.
Where all those "other" posts come from is the recent posts area of the forum. Whenever a post is made anywhere on the forum, unless it is in a password protected area, it appears in the recent posts. Most people don't realize that is happening, and go in and do their "atta boy" posts which then appear in the certified directory where the post started from. This is also why vendors posts appear in the recent posts area. We have the new mods starting to go thru the directory and remove a lot of the 'Atta boys". This should help. Gary

Not to derail this thread....
I started on that already Gary. I cleane up the threads portion and will start going through the posts by thread after the meeting tonight.
Ok, back on topic...
I would like to see a place to "feature" roof cleaners. Sort of a "roof cleaner of the month" and a classified section in the members area where members can sell stuff to other members. Not vendors, just us regular folk.

I've been on this too the last few days. I pretty much cleaned up the certified area for more recent posts anyway. And started moving other things over as well from other areas to their proper homes.
Good call on the atta boy removal, it wont effect their post count right?

Then again, "atta boy" comments probably aren't contributing anything to the site or a commenter's reputation. Do they attract the notice of google's search engine?

Some of your suggestion are already in place. (search--rules & regulations). The tab feature was discussed tonite in the board meeting. Will be active shortly. Finiancial disclosure will be provided as things progress and additional steps are developed. Thanks Gary
I would like to see the paid member section of the forum be separated from the roof cleaning forum the way that the certified section is. Then we could have sub-forums inside the member section.

I think that's the best idea I've heard yet. You pay to go to college or any trade school right? I think $100 is pretty damn cheap for the amount of knowledge found here and furthermore experience shows that people that aren't willing to pay for something are usually the ones that won't utilize it properly anyhow,
