Plastics like Kynar and Teflon are great, but still subject to UV rays, and cracking from physical stress. Welcome Hastelloy! It is a chemical proof metal, with all the structural advantages of metal. Unfortunately, it is expensive! I finally found and bought a used Hastelloy Pump, air diapraghm of course. They cost near 3 grand new!
Excellent Resistance to Corrosion HASTELLOY® C-276 alloy is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium wrought alloy that is generally considered a versatile corrosion-resistance alloy. C-276 alloy is an improved wrought version of alloy C in that it usually doesn't need to be solution heat-treated after welding and has vastly improved fabricability. This alloy resists the formation of grain-boundary precipitaties in the weld heat-affected zone, thus making it suitable for most chemical process applications in the as-welded condition. However, in environments where attack of the C-276 alloy weld joint is experienced, C-22® weld filler materials should be considered.
C-276 alloy has excellent resistance to localized corrosion and to both oxidizing and reducing media. Because of its versatility, C-276 alloy can be used where "upset" conditions are likely to occur or in multipurpose plants.
HASTELLOY C-276 alloy has excellent resistance to a wide variety of chemical process environments, including strong oxidizers such as ferric and cupric chlorides, hot contaminated media (organic and inorganic), chlorine, formic and acetic acids, acetic anhydride, and seawater and brine solutions. It is used in flue gas desulfurization systems because of its excellent resistance to sulfur compounds and chloride ions encounted in most scrubbers. C-276 alloy has excellent resistance to pitting and to stress-corrosion cracking. It is also one of the few materials that withstands the corrosive effects of wet chlorine gas, sodium hypochlorite, and chlorine dioxide.
Hey Chris,..do they make fittings and such out of this stuff? There are places where the strength of metal is needed,...would be nice to have an option other than the ones we currently use.

Jeff
Yes Jeff, they do, they are expensive, but forever!
Chris, what kind did you end up finding? I saw some Wilden pumps but even used they were still $1800.
I got one for 349.00 used, in great shape, thought it was a one inch pump, but it is a 3/4. No matter though, it is still a bad azzed pump. I look all the time on Ebay for stuff, It lasted about 2 hours on Ebay, I saw it, asked some questions, and jumped all over it. It is an older Wilden, BTW. Wilden is a first class company, and still support this older pump. They have plenty of extra parts when it comes time for a rebuild.
wow you might make money on the scrap metal, lol. I would think you could get a machine shop to make whatever you want out of it. Looks like it's about $13lb right now
Seems like it should be the roof cleaners standard though.

Good to know, I thought highly of their pumps but it's reassuring to hear from you. Sounds like you got a hell of a deal!
Jim Wilden INVENTED the air diapraghm pump! Their patents expired, and everyone else jumped in to the pump market they created. IMHO, a pump is a pump, if it is an All Flo, Yamada, Versa Matic, ARO, etc, etc, etc. The materials it is made out of, and your relationship with who you buy it from are what is important, unless you can service it yourself, or toss it when it wears out. I wanted a Hastelloy Pump, it just happened to be a used Wilden I found and could afford. If it was a used Versa Matic Hastelloy vs a Wilden Hastelloy would make no difference to me.
If possible we need to get this inside hose reels. Thanks Chris,.one of my Winter projects will be try and replace my hose reel core with this ,...if I can find it.
Will also be looking to replace steel pieces. Would be nice if QC's were made of this.
I have posted 2 of these versa matic 1/2" Hastelloy C pumps for sale both in unused and no one showed any interest at $1500 each. I have reduced them to $1000 each and may consider offers as well. Seems no one has ever heard of them before.

Well, Hastelloy IS the very best, but poly is plenty good too, as long as they are rinsed out. I like Hastelloy because it is immune from cracking, or idiots stepping on it
We use Hastelloy, a one inch Hastelloy Wilden, on our main truck.
