We use a variety of products - Mister Squeegee's Hard Water Slayer powder, One Restore, and BioClean. Much depends on the stain. I use bronze wool and a scraper as the mechanical means of removal for those products. If it's a silica stain or heavy oxidation (which is only obvious once you've tried everything else) the safest option is to use a scratch removal system (I recommend the Glass Renu system) to clear the stain. Some may suggest CC-550 but it contains a hydrofluoric acid and can cause serious health problems.

Just seeing what everyone else is doing these days to prevent and solve hardwater issues during their day to day.

We have some stuff we spray on glass and wash awayto prevent these things from happening and that is what I am looking for.

I've been getting good results out of applying Ettore Water Spot Remover onto a chunk of 0000 grade Steel Wool and rubbing it in.

However, I want to give Mr. Squeegee's powder a shot next time I re-up because I saw a video where he put the powder directly on a strip washer, scrubbed a stained window with a pole, and WFP'ed it off.

I can't begin to describe how much easier that would make my life :)

Would any of these solutions work on dark colored metal siding? I had my first spotting on siding last week. I think they had hard well water.

Perhaps try a rinse agent with a water softener in it. I'm not 100% certain, but I think Simple Cherry has it in it. Give Bob at PressureTek.com a call and he'll let you know.

rinsing agent works wonders

I use eco chem one restore. It has done wonders for me but the only thing is it is harsh and you should wear a respirator.

I agree. That is actually a great all around cleaner. Definitely a gloves and mask product.

The one thing I would advise against when working on hard water stains is CC550. It can cause a reaction on the tin side of glass (glass is manufactured by floating molten glass on a molten layer of tin. Some of this tin is embedded in that side of the glass for it's life) called Tin Etch Haze. Not to mention that it contains hydroflouric acid which can be extremely dangerous stuff.
When no other chemical works I use my Glass Renu system to mechanically grind the stain off the glass.
