I find the same with painting. I bid $400 to paint an apartment. $50 paint. $100 for the painter and $250 for me. Some dope did it for $110. He made $60 for a full days work. Kills you.

Just another ignorant lowballer pressure washer and I doubt he offers a warranty.  $450 for a days work to someone who doesn't value their own service is OK, I guess.  Move on to the next! You can't win them all.

Its the time of season where people can shop. Im not defending the guy. minus the roof the price seems ok. I also get used to naming my price from April until July. So far this month Ive been doing more estimates than Im used to. The good news is that the competitors you have this year will be gone next year. The bad news is next year you'll have some new ones. Its an endless cycle. Sell your service, how long you been in business, your inurance and certifications.

Was wondering the same thing.  I'm assuming it has something to do with installing zinc or copper on the roof peaks which would last about that long.

Hi Andreas.  It can't have anything to do with zinc or copper strips - have a look at this post:  http://roof-cleaning-institute.activeboard.com/index.spark?aBID=123190&p=3&topicID=37640458

The 5 year warranty has me baffled as well.  (Hmmm...  A Charleston plug forthcoming?  LOL)

A lot of guys are offering a warranty but you have to be experienced enough and have the right mix and be insured for it.
Anyway back to the topic, I just had a customer call me back to a house from a lowballer who obviously didn't know what he was doing and not only ruined her deck and basically the entire garden but there were streaks still on the roof. Big ones too. A touch up is understandable but not zebra stripes. Well she learned her lesson and had to pay double and now has to refinish her deck.

That's a shame. At least the right person ended up with the job. Good for you!  Don't tell me she actually paid that hack.

Dang I make $450 before I take my morning dump.Of course I do know how to price pressure washing and roof cleaning accordingly for my area.Heck,I'm usually done with my day before a lot of guys leave the house or shop.

Once you have lost a job get your ranting over with, stop dwelling on it and look forward.Hanging onto the why's of how others price will drive you insane.

138394,I like your enthusiasm towards making money!!  It is very true that trying to decipher lowballers pricing will drive you crazy.  Turn that knowledge into positive action by selling your superior service.  Some will always take the lowballer, you don't even want those people to call you.  Show that you are the high end service in all aspects and the cheapskates won't even bother with you.

quality over price. Where I used to advertise at. Well this guy has been knocked down to 65 gutter cleans. He is pushing price. The repeat customers I got from that ad years ago stay with me at my price.

I just took a house wash from a lowball painter today. When I gave the guy my price he gave me that look(you know tht look when you are high). I asked the customer if he had any other quotes. That's when he told me yes one from a painter for a $100 less. That's when I went into selling me service of why I was better and never going to be the cheapest. I was lucky to be the second guy to give the quote or he may of just went on price alone.
