We usually get good money for our work, or I will turn them away. If you automatically assume everyone is a price shopper, you will never make any money. You will be scared to ask for a decent payday. All people do not buy on price alone, or everyone would drive Kia's and live in the ghetto.

Prices in my area are coming back up. I guess the idiots bidding big tile roofs cheap are gone ? Perhaps they grew tired of working in 100 degree heat, for little or nothing ? I just closed another deal, and she had 3 bids. Surprisingly, we were not the most expensive. I will have to raise my prices to make sure that does not happen again

Finally snagged one Dwayne! My customer actually saw the value in the quality. He said he chose us because we had some kind of certification. I could have probably charged more. Yes, we will win!

I have a friend that owns an industrial pipe insulation shop in Baltimore worth about 1.5mil.  I was there helping when he stated 10 years ago, and he gives me advice and listens to what we are doing.  One thing he loves to tell me and I find it to be true.

If it were easy everyone would do it.

 

Those lowballers are the ones that think it is easy.  It seems when they realize how hard it really is most go out of business.  Some of them are guys like us that just don't see any other way to survive currently.  They will likley fail as well.

Ok, since this is In The Shade, I can make an analogy. You have 2 girls, one is a whore, and one is a good girl. The whore is easy, for you and the next guy.  But the good girl is harder to get, she makes you work for it.
What one do you want to marry ? Same with our customers! Make them work you for a deal, don't drop your pants so easy.

Always be the high price, then come down a little if you have to.  Kia's are always cheap, who cares, no one ever brags about getting a deal on a Kia! But, if you can get a new Mercedes at dealer cost, now we're talking.  Position yourself as the Mercedes, don't be scared when a customer says "I am getting some estimates on roof cleaning" What they are REALLY telling you is " I have not gotten enough information about roof cleaning to make a decision yet" STRESS that you are Certified, you are better, and you cost a little more.
