Has anybody here had to deal with pine sap? I had a HO call me back saying there was an "acid spill" or something on part of the roof I had just cleaned. I went back and checked it out with his son and we had to look very carefully to even see what he was talking about. We finally found specks of white here and there and thought it was bird crap. It turned out to be pine sap that had been brightened and cleaned by the solution, making it visible where it hadn't been before. The HO settled down once it was diagnosed, but I'm wondering if there is a solution to the problem that would remove the sap/tar without damaging the shingle granules.
Any advice from the southern states where pines are everywhere?

OK. Now I know how to remove pine pus off of everything from myself, my car, my dog, my clothes, to your little sister. You can't tell me no one out there has had to deal with this. How do you get it off of a roof without ruining the shingle???
I thought I could count on the roof cleaning professionals here. Maybe not.

WOW! Thats pretty rough.
Maybe the person that could help you hasnt loged on today.
I hope he does pretty soon. The HO is being a PITA. Wouldn't mind gettin paid. This guy got my best, plus many extras. Has more money than the big guy. A few tiny specks of sap and he goes nuts. Everything there is perfect except for that. People are nuts.

I would try a little turpentine soaked into a rag. It should help to dilute the sap. It won't be a "spray on" simple scenario...it will take some rubbing. The trick is to not rub too much!

Thanks, Ray! I knew one of the southern gentlemen would come through! I just want the dude to be satisfied. He said he was a type A personality and is proving it. I will try that and mop as I go.

I didn't have time to get into all the details yesterday morning as I don't have time this morning either. I was just giving you a list of quick options for what removes tree sap. If it can be removed from all the items you mentioned then it can be removed from the roof with the same materials.
Be careful! Whatever you use could de-tar the shingle and make the granules fall off.
Try extremely hot water with a little bit of Sauce in it and an extra dash of Billybob.
If it is just big drips and drops of sap then you could freeze it off with one of those corroded bolt freezer cans. and then just tap with a hammer.
But if you are talking a large stain try the hot water move with sauce. or maybe dump a bucket of ants or bees up there they will take care of it! lol.
