Was your SHC fresh? Also if you do plan on rinsing it off leave it at least 30 mins+ to dwell on there. Most of us do not rinse so it dwells much much longer.

John - in addition to the sound words above, keep in mind you can always (and easily) add water if your mix is too hot.  Getting a feel for the strength of the SH is one of the more difficult aspects in my opinion.

Too  hot and and you might smoke the landscape.  Too week, and far too many applications are needed.

Chris posted some wise words on here somewhere - if the stains go away with about a 5 minute dwell time, you're about right.  Adjust from there.

Personally, I like my mix a little hot, but I've got the best ground technician a guy can ask for.

Here's my $.02
1) Not enough surfactant. the steeper the roof, the more  "soap" you'll need, especially with the hang-time.  Love will run off at 10/12 at tand alarming rate

2) your mix was only 30% strength, IMHO, thats the bare minimum strength. I'g go a little "hotter", I spray most at 35-40%  A steeper roof wil allow less love to stick to the roof

3) You only made 30 gallons of love. You may have applied too "thin"  I would have probabaly started with 50 gallons of sauce

4) as it was stated, your SH could have been week

Don't get discouraged. Remember, most guys have to reapply love to problem areas and second and sometimes third time to achieve proper results, especially on a steep pitch.  Just keep that landscaping wet, and you'll be fine!.

Commander, it sounds like you had a roof something like the one on the left. This is the mix I used to clean it.

15 gallons of bleach - 12.5% sodium hypochlorite
25 gallons water
5 lbs. TSP (Tri-sodium phosphate)
64 ounces of isopropyl alcohol
24 oz dawn

I put the TSP in the night before.

Two days later we had a good rain it looks better then the pic.
