Clyde, I have used both Bing and Google earth. But I also look up local tax appraiser and get exact sq ft of the home and some sites have CAD assisted drawing to help as well. I can do every thing but get exact pitch.

+1
Be carful of Bing Maps. lately their not on the right house. I normally go to google first and make sure I have the right one and then to Bing for the closer look.
I went to a company called eagle eye and they wanted like 40 per or something and I told them what I needed it for and they said if I bought a membership up front it would be cheaper yatta yatta yatta.
Anyway I dug a bit deeper and I found that all of these companies buy from a larger company who copyrights it and sells the photgraphs. They are called Pictometry. I was using them but it just became a hassle, really. Just another bill to pay. didn't need it. They gave us a free trial at first and then it was like 12 bux or something per house and this included the tool to get the measurements but if you want them to do it it costs more.
It's pretty neat and stuff but I like to go out and price them out or use zip realty or bing maps because of the birdseye view,
The best Birdseye view is from a realestate websight called ziprealty.com

I use bing and google but then i also use Zillow.com, it will give you the sq footage minus the garage and all you have to figure out is pitch.... great tool
