To the old timers.... Based on your experience, is there some truth to the following statement found on the website, "naturalhandyman.com"?
Do you have any sample roofs that you could go back to several years later and see zero of these claimed problems with the shingles. Do you think that you may be shortening the life span of the shingles? Or... does this process do no more damage to the roof than allowing the algae to remain, which does lead to premature roof failure?
Thanks,
Greg
"Problems with using bleach on asphalt roofs...
There is some concern regarding the use of chlorine-based products on asphalt roofs. Household bleach can damage asphalt due to its high sodium content. Apparently, the sodium causes an electrochemical reaction that reduces the elasticity of the asphalt leading to stiffness, brittleness and curling of the shingles. (I suffer from two of those symptoms myself!)"
It is BS. Mostly just repeating what they read somewhere else. Most likely from a distributer site that sells a different chem.

This is just an uneducated lie or something to tell homeowners. It is completely false in all directions.I will explain only a few simple reasons of pleanty that prove this.
Asphault, plastic and vinyl come directly form crude oil. One of the most common plastics use in the WOLRD is pvc. PVC stands for Poly-vinyl-cholride. Obviously they go together like peas and carrots
Pools have liquid forms of chlorine or "bleach" in them or they will turn green and brown due to fungi and bacteria. Above ground pools are VINYL.
Throw a shingle in a pool and a shingle in a bucket of water mixed with any homeowner scam degreasing roof cleaner and call me in a month 267-885-6046.
Freezing and thawing causes cracks, just like potholes in an asphalt road
Dry rot is a parasite.Period. Nothing causes dry rot but a parasite, bacteria or fungus. ANything else is false.
Have you ever seen the asphault sticky treads on a pool ladder? Proved wrong right there.
I will stop there, and not even mention a lick about the shingle manufacturers.

Good info Jerry, I'll remember those.
Parking lots at McDonalds are made out of Asphalt. A Man was arrested in Tampa for dropping french fries on the asphalt parking lot for destruction of property! Seems the salt content in the french fries reduced the life of the McDonalds Asphalt parking lot, LOL
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A West Virginia man accused of passing gas and fanning it toward a police officer no longer faces a battery charge.
The Kanawha County prosecutor's office requested that the charge be dropped against 34-year-old Jose Cruz.
Cruz, of Clarksburg, W. Va., was pulled over early Tuesday for driving without headlights, police said. According to the criminal complaint, Cruz smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and failed three field sobriety tests before he was handcuffed and taken to a police station.
According to a criminal complaint, Cruz passed gas and made a fanning motion toward patrolman T.E. Parsons after being taken for a breathalyzer test.
"The gas was very odorous and created contact of an insulting or provoking nature with Patrolman Parsons," the complaint alleged.
Cruz acknowledged passing gas, but said he didn't move his chair toward the officer nor aim gas at the patrolman. He said he had an upset stomach at the time, but police denied his request to go to the bathroom when he first arrived at the station.
"I couldn't hold it no more," he said.
He also denied being drunk and uncooperative as the police complaint alleged. He added he was upset at being prepared for a breathalyzer test while having an asthma attack. The police statement said he later resisted being secured for a trip to a hospital that he requested for asthma treatment.
Cruz said the officers thought the gas incident was funny when it happened and laughed about it with him.
Cruz, who was arrested Tuesday, still faces two charges: driving under the influence and driving without headlights, and two counts of obstruction.

And lets not forget how we all wouldn't be worried about the oil spill in the ocean, which is salt water, but unfortunately it is a sad reality.
