Well if you can afford to you could just
 stay off the shingles...
But if your like me and need the $$$$$

Try a white tile roof in Florida... You get blinded!

We deal with the heat everyday.

Here are some tips:

1. Stay hydrated. If you feel thirsty you are already DEhydrated.
I go through no less than 1 gallon of water/gatorade in 6 hours.

2. Cover your skin. I sweat off every type of sunscreen they make so I wear long sleeves made of material that wicks away moisture and keeps me cool. This also protects my skin from the sun. Wearing a hat that covers your neck is a very good idea.

3. On a lighter colored roof wear sunglasses. You don't want to squint all day.

4. Get in and get out. I schedule work for as early as possible and I'm done by 2:00 p.m. or I take a break from 1-5 and do my last job after 5. The hottest part of the day is typically between 1-3.

5. Its okay to take a break. By the time you start to feel the heat get to you, you are moments away from problems. Listen to your body. Stop, get in the shade and hydrate. Heat stroke, Heat exhaustion, and Sun poisoning are all very real!

6. If the heat index is 100 on the ground you can bet its 110 on the roof. In temps like this DO NOT work alone. It isn't worth the risk.

We do it all the time but make sure we drink drink drink and cool off with cold wet towels around our necks and hose off with cool water.

We use spf 85 and wear polarized sunglasses that block uva and uvb rays. Don't forget about your eyes guys!!!

In Florida, heat is a way of life..today 90+ but with the humidity were looking at 103 in the shade. You can get out of the sun when its hot and still work, but humidity follows you like a bad reputation.

cool em off. seriously though we had to break out a pick the other day to span an entryway to be able to spray all of the dormers. If we walked on the roof we would have had skip marks for sure.

I learned this trick from my old boss(my dad). go to a junk yard give the guy $5 and tell him you need a couple of seats. Take a knife and cut open an old bench seat of a pick up truck or something and cut out the foam. Make sure its in one peice when you put that foam on the roof you can lay on it, jump on it, party on it, do whatever you want on it it doesn't move.

The foam bites so hard to the roof you can just sit and spray. it spreads your weight so good you never marr or skip the shingles. Just carry two small ones, about 2'x2' up with you and you can climb the roof on your knees if you want, thats the only way we ever ripped a roof over an 8 pitch. Putting them back on you jack it ofcourse.

ive been drinking Pedialite at least once a day. More electrolites than gatoraide. Its been wicked out there last couple weeks.
I was talking to a customer at the end of a job and started panting like a dog. I realized it was a sign of serious overheating. You gotta take this seriously.
