Okay I had a job lined out a few weeks back, and figured I would get a 55 of 10 or 12%.....1/2 for me ........we had a minor hail storm two weeks ago, and the one house I had planned on doing is trying his hardest to get a new roof???
I want to do my house, its about 14 years old, the north side is not that bad, and the rest of the roof looks good.....my question is, can I go to Sam's club and get some bleach and just do it?
More of a practice run......
I hate to use some out of the 55 and have the rest go to waste.
No you cannot. Number one you are in training to be a professional roof cleaner and number two, bleach is bleach and sodium hypochlorite 12% is just that. Household bleach is ridiculously weaker than SH bought from your chem supplier.
If you have a 55 then you may want to keep it vented anyway. Some one gallon containers come straight from the manufacturer with a vented cap on there, so why are you worried about opening it? The worst thing I believe to weaken the SH is the sun and to much bouncing around and to mix it with something that will eat it up. So you should be ok; or at least for a little while.
How did you purchase one 55 by the way? I guess I should say how did you lift it off over 500 lbs of your truck. Try smaller quantities, it helps us a lot to work with small amounts.
Doing your own roof for practice is an excellent idea though. You really have to get a feel for your equipment and mixes and develop you own system and what works best for you. Go for it and take your time and learn. Good Luck

The place I called will deliver a 55 gallon of SH, not sure the cost of delivery, he quoted me the following: 10% to 12%SH $115 a drum $45.00 drum deposit.
I figured I would ask after reading the GAF shingle site on how to clean the algae.
Line up a few houses to do (preferably some forgiving friends and or relatives) and practice using the entire 55. Depending on the size of the roofs, you will probably only get a few roofs out of the mix (search apple cider and apple sauce mix on this site). The Pro's here love it.
Once again, Yes you can use it if you need to. Alot of the older vets started out using straight 6% in a pump up. Is it recommended? No.
Thats a pretty decent price. Just tell them you're gonna be buying alot of it and see if they'll waive the deposit. We havent paid one in 3 years. We buy 4-8 55ers at a time and they deliver. When we get into slow season we just stop by and pick up a drum or 2 at a time.
