so I am going door to door yesterday and I come upon a house with a moss problem. I ask the gentleman if he would be interested in my service. He says yes He makes it clear he doesn't want to get up on his roof. I quote him a small price of 250 bucks, he says do it. I schedual him for the next day. I get a call about 30 minutes later its his wife and she wants to cancel the job. I say okay but can I ask why. she starts to inform me that Here friends tell her I do terrible work, I ask here who are your friends she has no answer, but to say 250 is just way to much to clean one small patch of moss. I then say mam If price is the issue just say that don't say I do terrible work cause I have only done about 10 roofs in this area and all of them are happy with my work, I personally no almost all of them. she says well well its the cost. I say fine mam if you would like I will come and treat that one small area that you see for 50 bucks. she agrees and I am doing it on saturday. My plan is to be nice. take some pictures of the roof that is covered in moss that she can't see. treat the small area she can see. show her the pictures, then offer to treat the rest for my original price. might even lower it a bit.
Everyone starts out using price. Me too. Got into many price wars! It got so bad I had to get out. You know he still advertising that low price!! LOL!! I'm doing most at my regular price. He says he can beat any house wash price! LOL!! I should shop his arse!
About that roof. Yea do a small section for free. Just blow a chunk up there. A lil 2ft square piec. Right where that moss is. Explain to her what is going on. What to expect. Dont act hungry. Let her see for herself what a certified RCIA washer can do! I'm going to increase my price. The RCIA really is awesome. When you roll back up to her house act like you just did a roof and it was perfect!
Honestly if they cant afford it they cant afford it. We are setting the standard in the brains of homeowners what this value is. Dont get stuck doing roofs for beer money. You wil eventually go out of business.
I agree with that don't need beer money I need to make a living. I just bid that bank job for 1200 bucks. might be a bit low but its really not that hard of a job. its about 5000 square feet and at .25 cents a foot that's 1250 bucks. then I bid a post office that was about 2800 square ft for 500 bucks, at .15 cents a square ft, easy job. I am patient the jobs will come just give it time and need to let the community understand what it is we do.
update on this roof. I showed up and started talking to the home owner about our previous conversation on the phone. I explained what I do how I do it and why I am saving her money in the long run. I only did half of the house. now remember she only wanted a section done for 50 dollars. she paid me 150 dollars for half of the house. It was a small house about 16 squares of roof. Well she loved it and wants to run an add in the local Eagles club advertisement it gets delivered to about 2000 people on the coast. she then asked me for some cards and started handing them out to her neighbors. I can say this turned out better than I thought.
Good to see things ended up well I am fairly new to this I had some experience years back I worked for a guy and buisness was good but he started not paying me and wanting to skim out on quality and thats two things I dont do. So after a few years I decide why work for some one eles when I know something that was easy and made money. Now a good friend and I are starting our own buisness and I just want to get my ducks in a row before I hit the streets. Im glad I ran across this site so far it seems like people are very willing to help and guide others in the right way.
