Newbie here, I have posted a few questions and have had them answered rather quickly.
Here's my problem, we had a bad hail storm last Thursday some very minor damage to cars, quarter size hail, not hail like they had in Oklahoma, that was a "real" storm........but anyway now the roofers are out in force telling people they need to replace the roof at no cost to the homeowner???
I looked at my roof and its fine, my first roof job now thinks he wants a new roof?????

Kinda have had the same problem here. We haven't had a recent hail storm, but I booked a roof a few weeks ago. I was supposed to clean it last Monday. Well a few hours before the appointment to clean, I get a call from the home owner. She says their friend suggested that they have a roofer come out and see whether they need a new roof or not - before they have it cleaned.
My question the the homeowner was, "what makes you think you need to have it replaced?" she states that there was no reason in particular, just curious. I ask her "How old is your roof,?" She says 10-15 years old. So I asked "have you had a hail storm recently?" She says no. Then I asked, "well have you had any leaks?" She says, "well, several years ago, but that has been fixed and we haven't had any problems."
I left it at that. I just reminded her the cost of having the roof cleaned hoping that she would consider that vs. replacement cost.
A few days ago she called and said the roofer said she needed a new roof. (big surprise there!!) The insurance adjuster is going to come out and tell her how much they'll cover, if anything at all.
So we'll just have to hang on and see what happens. The most aggravating thing about the whole situation is she waited till about 3 hours before I was supposed to start the job to let me know they're thinking about getting a new roof.
I'd like to know how much these insurance companies are paying out to homeowners to get a new roof. I doubt very seriously they're paying 100% unless the roof is within a year old.
What does hail damage look like, and at what point does it constitute immediate replacement?

The storm here was nothing like Oklahoma had, I think a video is on U-Tube for that storm, that one destroyed everything in its path, car windows, house windows, siding, roofs, you name it.
Around here they use the "fear" factor on all these old people, my sons car had a few minor dings, so I know my roof is fine, the roofers are telling everyone, "no money out of your pocket" yeah right, nothings free.........I'll get my set up done next week and just clean mine and see how it looks......the roofers claim any abnormal amout of shingle granules on the ground means you need a new roof, signs are everywhere, its crazy....
Well I got a call from the lady today. She said that she called a 2nd roofing company after talking with me. She knew this roofing company - I'm not sure why she didn't call them first. This roofing company said she did not need to replace her roof as she still had at least 5 years left.
So we've got her back on the books. I will be asking her for the name of this roofing company and I would like to send them business.
You would think that she knows you have seen plenty of roofs and would tell her if she truly needed a new one.
My neighbor(the one I had set up) just got a check for $1300.00 for the dings on his truck 06 Chevy, do you think he's taking it to the bodyshop?
NO!!!!
His adjuster was out yesterday, and he's waiting for an answer....I can't wait to clean mine and have him look at it everyday from his Living room window!!!!
I plan on making a post card or flyer with the heading:
Need a New Roof?
Probably Not!"
Maybe this would work good in your area too? People will be interested if somebody is telling them they may not need to shell out thousands of dollars..
