Dan, Why do you walk the roofs? We don't walk any roofs. It's not good for the roofs, it's not safe without a harness and also dragging the hose across the granulars removes them. We use the Fatboy set up and we spray from the gutter line or the ground.
My leg hurts too Dan, I tore my MCL, hammy and meniscus and am in a leg brace but I'm still climbing ladders and roof cleaning! In fact I upped my 40 time and I told the doc I don't have time for the surgery so if he has to cut me he can do it in the truck! So lets stop the Sally talk and get tough huh? And what is this shoe talk from you Nancy pants out there when I grew up we didn't have shoes! LOL. Just kidding Dan, sorry from time to time I get flashbacks of my father yelling at me for not being able to frame up a house at age 6.

I just use comfortable tennis shoes, they work great.
Asics gel are the ones I wear and when they are really bad and worn out then they are my roof cleaning shoes.

This is a house we did this week. It is tall and big and we did it all from ladders. It was not an easy home but it was to dangerous to walk and the home owner didn't want us on the roof because he heard it damages the shingles. He's correct.

I really don't know how you would walk that one if the first place!
I just use a pair of DCs. They have great soles on them and find the little tread causes less damage on the roof compared to a work boot or cross trainer runner... No shoe or slip on will help you on a soapy roof, just make sure you don't wash yourself into a corner...
We buy $12 tennis shoes from Walmart. The reason why is the rubber soles are made so cheap, the rubber is really soft and grips well. Best thing ive tried. Ive hired guys who showed up on day 1 with $150 redwings. Couldnt put 1 foot on the roof, the rubbers made to well and is stiff.
But yes, when possible, stay off
