yea this forum does create compitition, but it also creates work. It is cut throat right now, we are all dealing with that right now. Dont beat yourself up over it....were here to work together. Find out what your competition is doing right, and do it better. Find out what your doing wrong and do it right. Start in your home area, I have done more free jobs than paying. I get experience and I get seen.
Make your truck your rolling advertisement....park it in areas that need roof cleaning and that can afford it.....have your wife or girlfiend pick you up and go to lunch. leave your truck there. I am having static cling stickers made up to put on family cars. they can take them off when they like and put them back on. Cost?? about 5-6 bucks each!
Dont go to areas if you dont think they can afford it themselves. The way I think is if they dont keep the lawn mowed and cleaned, cars cleaned etc...dont advertise there. Just MHO.
Post cards!! 1000 for about 40.00 Drive in areas and jot down the addresses of homes that need cleaned, and drop it in the mail! Thats direct marketing.
Were here to help.....Chris has helped just by posting all the stuff he does. Clyde and i spoke for the first time this week and I get lil ideas from him. He's old school, and thats where experience is at.
I always listened to my grandpa tell his stories....he passed away 2 years ago this thanksgiving and I still use his stories on my customers and my kids. There is knowledge in experience.
I know who I would call if i had questions about a shady buisness dealing with another tree service....the guy with all the experience. YOU!
Get out there and make some customers happy and make some money too!

that was a good post Dwayne.
Some of us know these things you mentioned but boy how easily we forget them. These types of Idea's you spoke about needs to be refreshed in our minds often.
I know what you are talking about, I grew up in a tree business that my dad started over 40 years ago.
These days there is more competition but also more jobs, more people on the planet, more places to buy things, etc....more of anything.
Value is what is helping a lot of companies out there, adding more value to what you do vs. your competition. If you can offer other services that don't cost you much but your time, add them in as the great equalizer.
If you see the trees are rubbing on the shingles add a little bit of trimming to the job as a freebie and mention that the branches are rubbing the granules off then there will be holes and then wood rotting underneath that you will not see until there are stains on their ceiling along with the hidden mold in the sheetrock. By you doing the roof cleaning you will add in a little bit of professional trimming (you won't butcher the trees or make them look bad) to clear the roof.
If they like how that looks then they might call you back for more work and in their eyes you are the value contractor.
If you could do both businesses I would but keep the overhead low if it is possible to help keep the profit high.
You could give them a package deal, tree trimming or bush trimming with the roof cleaning.
Kind of like the landscapers are doing by adding tree and bush trimming to the yard work, you add the roof cleaning to the tree trimming or add the tree trimming to the roof cleaning.
Do what you have to do to make it.
Good Luck.
