I've been searching around where I live and picking out some of the really noticable ugly roofs in high traffic areas for a free demo, just to let me put my yard sign out.Is this a quick way to get noticed and induce sells or am I thinking in the wrong way? Also, would it be safe to give apartment complexes a % off?I figured if they have a large roof or several roofs then it would make sense to give them a discount, wrong or right? Thanks for any advise as usual.BTW,for the record,I LOVE this site!I've,am,learning sooooo much from ya'll and apreciate the willingness that ya'll have to give to us newbies. Thanks again
Do a campaign in the neighborhood if you are discounting or doing it free. Invite the neighborhood by putting door hangers on their doors abou 4 or 5 days before you are going to do the roof. Have someone to go back and put out more door hangers or fliers while you are doing the roofs. Set up a table and have girls serve soft drink, water and coffee and maybe donuts.

My plan when i got started was to have a cardboard cutout of a life size guy pointing at the house with a big sign that says "Roof cleaning in progress" and/or "Ask us about roof cleaning" i would place him close to the street at the beginning of the cleaning. what do you guys think?
Try to find a neighborhood with only one way in and one way out with the first two corner houses on each side with bad shingles. Give away the demo's on both houses only if they let you keep out a yard sign for as long as you can get them to. This way, all cars driving in and out of that neighborhood see the signs. then go door to door. Knock on each door. I look at putting out flyers like this.... If your already at their door, its better to try to talk to them than just hanging a door hanger waiting for them to maybe call. Don't do a busy road (as in speed limit because they may not have time to stop and see what your sign says or what you did)
The free demo in a upscale development or any development as far as that goes is a great way to get yourself noticed and generate some paying roof washes. Let the entire development know what your doing and when your doing it. I prefer doing it on a Saturday, due to most folks being home on the weekends etc. Do it, and make yourself the talk of development !!! Once they see the amazing results, that speaks loader than any doorhanger my friend !!! Good luck and tear it up !!

I like that idea Thanks, I am going to look into doing that.
That sure is less expensive than hiring Mold Man dressed up in a green mold suit rollerblading up and down the block passing out fliers.

LOL you got some sense of humor Brother. that green dude looks like he would be a great roof cleaner, sleek and light.
As far as my $.02 goes, free/reduced price roofs are a great idea. Just make sure you Market the heck out of yourself. Don't assume the neighbors will notice your work with just a flier or sign. I'd do a flier before the cleaning and then three fliers after the cleaning.
Consumers are bombarded with so much information these days, its hard to get the message across.

I keep referring to it like a dog that pooped on the carpet you almost need to grab them by the back of the head and rub their nose in it. Sorry, I know that a little extreme...Just trying to get my point across.

I agree Mold Man is an eye catcher and now I have an old Statue of Liberty costume for sale cheap
I have passed out cards and flyers... to get things started this year.
I have a news article coming out I think Monday 4/5/2010 in the news paper, I hope it is good I have not seen it? It was free publicity so I don't have much input on it.
Then at the end of the month I am sending out 50 thousand coupons in save magazine.
After that I am hoping to get a spot on the local news on how to save people money by cleaning their roofs instead of replacing them.
I ordered 5000 two sided uv high gloss cards for $38.00, they look good and I received them quick... http://gotprint.net/g/welcome.do

This comes from my experience. Cple years ago Everyone in this comunity had to get their wood washed 'cause of HOA. Just by chance my first one was a lady i cleaned her gutters last year. She was right at the way into the place, the only way in! I put a sign up and for weeks every day for about a month I was puttin up more signs at jobs I did! The whole place had my signs up! That was stupid luck! I was sealing 2 jobs to every 1 that got washed some times!
Next ? I can answer from exp. My first op. at an apt complex gutter clean. Over 100 town houses. Well I added them up. Times my price per town house. The PM laughed and showed me how to bid it. You give a price per row. Works out to be much less.
Bob Jr. That mold man Rocks!!! All your colors match!!! Even the dude! What color is your truck? When they see that color, anywhere, they will think of mold man!
