There is a lot more to being a successful business person than a mere sticker or decal on your vehicle or website. Do you actually believe that 99% of the general public will take anyone at their word these days without talking to them?
Just to be absurd, let's say that I say that I am the ONLY one that is authorized to clean a roof by the power of the federal government. Not only that, but I put the attached decal all over my vehicles...
The decal is there on my rear bumper with my phone number, so it HAS to be true.
The president himself authorized it! No other roof cleaners but me...I've got the decal and vinyl lettering that says so!
I always thought decals were pride in association not that belonging to the association made any diffrence or not. I love to show off the groups that I'm a part of
I think i agree that the sticker won't sell jobs for me, but it gives them some motivation to ask if we have some kind of credential. Just like adding the BBB or logos like that to your ads show you care, but doesn't mean most customers do. I still want some to share that I am part of a group working towards a goal. I don't think I get any calls by saying I'm RCIA certified on my website, but after you talk to them about it, they seem to really like the idea that we got some kind of training. I always tell them exactly what we are. A forum of people that work together and share knowledge. I tell them we test our members after 100 posts and we want to make it better and stronger than that. Usually my customers response is that they appreciate the honesty and the effort, even though it is on a forum and based on communication more than skills currently. It really surprised me that it wasn't a joke to them, but I find most customers appreciate honesty more than logos.
Amen Bill, In this day and age credibility speaks loudly. In every line of business there are the ones out there that just want to make a buck and do not take pride in there work, lowballers, unqualified applicators etc., doing sloppy work and taking the publics hard earned money, then disappearing !! Our whole objective here is to let people know that we are an association of qualified, certified nonpressure roof cleaners and they will get quality work for their money ! Every day I learn more and feel more confident in having the right answers to any question a potential customer may have. I take pride in my work and am proud to know that I can do the job right the first time, thanks to the training and education I get here from the Best in the Business !! Be Proud of who we are and display it Proudly ! Plant the seed, eliminate the weeds and watch it grow !!

Me too! That's exactly my point. That is why I am putting this President decal all over my vehicles. Heck, I might just put one smack dab in the middle of my forehead. That way when I am talking to a customer, they will know that whatever I say or don't say, I'm their guy?
I'm being sarcastic obviously. I'm one of the biggest team players out there guys, just ask Chris. My only point was that we don't need to lose too much sleep or stress out over some little decal. We are roof cleaners, not brain surgeons. Can I simply walk into the hospital, show them my brain surgeon decal and operate on some guy? The answer is yes, I did it last night just to test the system. That poor bastard didn't make it and my career as a brain surgeon is OVER, but hey at least I tried and will forever have my precious sticker that says I am a brain surgeon.
I lose sleep every night about you guys that are losing sleep over decals!
Now i get it. Duh! who the hell is losing sleep over the decals there decals and thats all they are. Just relax and market yourelf and your business and things will happen. Also it helps to be knowledgeable about what you do.
I don't understand why you would not want to be proud, that you actually took the time to become certified.. I think it something to be proud of and for that reason should be displayed. I never said you would get more work of course you have to sell yourself.
i am proud to display the logo i never said i wasnt i just dont understand who is losing sleep over them. I take pride in everything i do and always strive for the best no matter what.
Good post, a certification, training or education in any profession is a reinforcement that you are a professional in your field. When you speak to a customer with confidence and knowledge they will know that you are truly a professional. Then they will know. You can't fake knowledge in front of a customer.
