Expanding? I have a couple questions....

Has anyone grown enough that they are considering expanding into different markets?
And what justifies that?
If you were or have expanded, how do you hire and monitor the newly expanded area if it is remote?
Do you offer the "tech" in the remote area an option to buy in?
So many questions in this area I would not be able to list them all, so please, post it here or email me.

Toledo Roof Cleaning has found that there is enough people in my area that needs are service, that we would not consider starting in another location.  It is amazing the look on a customers face when you remove those BLACK STREAKS from their roofs.  Toledo Roof Cleaning LLC

How long have you been in business and is this your only job? How many cleanings do you perform in a week? Before expansion you have to certain that your primary location will support another location. I am assuming you are speaking of opening another location fully staffed?

I am just feeling out how everyone is doing, I am not doing as well as everyone else because I have a full time job as well to cover the family with insurance.....3 at home and one in college.
I guess I made that sound a little off....It's kinda sad but I wish there was someone that was willing to open a "branch" in my area that I could operate and eventually buy out.
I work 40hrs + a week at my full time job and approx 45 at softwashing and surface cleaning. I havent gotten a raise in 2 years.......not a sob story here trust me.
But I hope you understand where I am coming from with all the questions. It sounds to me that I am doing something wrong when it comes to marketing.

Hi Dwayne

Sounds llike your doing well to me. You have a family of 6, and your working, and putting one thru college. Just read the info here at RCIA and apply yourself the best you can. That's all that can be asked of oneself.

good luck

If you are thinking of building your customer base as well as increasing your income with your roof cleaning business, I would put the word out that you are looking for someone part time or full time. Train them to do it your way, have them sign a non-compete and pay them a commission on what is sold and completed. This will build YOUR business. You have to be careful when bringing someone else on board. The non-compete will offer you some protection. I am sure there is a thread on this site for that. I remember something like this not long ago.

Hi Duayne

As far as marketing is concerned and growing your business, with out a doubt you have to be a people person. If your not you need to learn quick. The best resourse I have for you would be starting with a book called " How to Win Friends & Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. It's an excellent book. Read it over and over, and practice.

Duayne

If you could master the art of talking to people you could have almost anything you want.

I know easier said than done, but if you practice and practice you will be further ahead if you didn't try.

Here's the deal man......
I know a few people that branch into other services and are succesful.
I know a ton of people who tried it or are doing it and it is killing them or they barley make it.

YOUR SERVICE SALES ARE ONLY AS GOOD AS YOUR MARKETING!!!!

add on services to an already profitable business are great ways to earn extra money, but if you can't sell your main service yet, you will have the same problem with your others.

Selling yourself as a professional is the key to your marketing foundation!!!

And also very importantly, each new service is like a new business, it has it's own regulations, equipment, tactics, sales strategies etc. and if your really not careful it won't even fit your business at all. Service, goods and manufacturing are all completely different types of business.

With all that said....
Some great add ons for roof cleaning exterior service companies that can work if you already know how to sell them
Snow removal
Pressure or soft washing
Roofing repairs
Exterior painting, sealing, and wood restoration.

As far as running satellites, I would suggest keeping them near by unless you have executive management experience in a already successful repeatable business model situation. If you don't and it is something you really want to do down the road you can grow into that kind of model by surrounding yourself with other successful business owners and join your local chamber of commerce, and score chapter.

PS.. Great advice Walk, I will check out that book too!!

Bill, I agree with you. You have to be succesful in your main business before you add more. I read a couple of these guys websites on here and it's hard to tell what they do.  Their websites are so cluttered with snow removal, deck staining, concrete sealing anything they can think of. Including picking up dog poop. These guys have whole pages of their services.   Around my part we call them jack of all trades and Masters of none.  Customers like people who are professional in a couple areas.
