Is this worth researching?

Came across a product today that might be of interest, may be, if you think it might work you could help me research it

it has up to 260% more oxidation output compared to chlorine (bleaching power) has a stable half life of 30-40 days, is safer then chlorine on us and the environment, is less corrosive then plain water and comes as a 2 part powder

Dose it look interesting???

Ok here it is, it is called TwinOxide http://www.twinoxide.com/ basically it is a powdered & safe form of Chlorine Dioxide

any way as I said I have just come cross it and thought I might share and may be you could help see if it is worth while for us
Cheers.

It does look interesting. I have sent them a request for information. Good work looking this up for roof cleaners around the world. This product if it works could be a roof cleaners panacea.

I too have sent them a request on further information, pricing and requested a sample of the product to use as a test.
This appears to be a very interesting item that needs extended research.

These types of forums once again demonstates the importance of this website and professionals such as yourself!

I too sent a request. I figure the more people send a request the more serious they will take it as a viable avanue to look into...

Thanks

I also requested some info on this product. I also found this on youtube. They are using it in the gas form, but the results are truly amazing. If it works half that good in liquid form, we'll have a winner. Found some pricing, but don't know how much you have to use, to determine if its affordable.

Very Interesting ....
The disinfecting power of Chlorine is greatly aided by lowering the PH.
However, it is not the disinfecting power of the Chlorine we are concerned with, it is the cleaning power!
This is expresed as the percentage of what is called the Hypochlorite ION, active at higher PH.

The stuff you found bears close investigation, it MAY work ?
Good Job Guys !!

I did not hear from them today so I did some research on my own and found a very good document from the EPA. Here is a small clip from that document and a link to the entire thing.

· Air contact with chlorine dioxide solutions should be controlled to limit the potential for
explosive concentrations possibly building up within the generator. Chlorine dioxide
concentrations in air higher than 8 to 10 percent volume should be avoided. Two methods
can be applied: operation under vacuum or storage under higher positive pressure (45 to 75
psig) to prevent buildup of gas-phase ClO2 in the head space. Bulk storage (batch) tanks
containing ClO2 should be suitably vented to atmosphere.

http://www.epa.gov/ogwdw000/mdbp/pdf/alter/chapt_4.pdf

Anything that looks promising is worth the research but right now this looks to not be a compatible product. Not done researching but this is what I have found so far.

I'm still researching this,

Here are a few links http://www.diamondoxide.com/index.php & http://www.slideshare.net/aseem.kujur/diamondoxide

They all say that is non explosive, that was the problem with the old normal Chlorine Dioxide that was mainly a gas and why it was not used outside of speciality uses, I beleive this is somewhat differant. Chlorine Dioxide is used extensively for bleaching pulp in paper mills

any way worth a look, If it could be used it would be awesome , no smell, safe, stronger then chlorine, non corrosive etc.

Ok been doing a bit of web digging

Chlorine Dioxide sounds like good stuff to me. A lot of places that claim to supply or sell Chlorine Dioxide actually sell you "Sodium Chlorite" then the instructions tell you to add a small amount of citric acid to mix it up. Sodium Chlorite + citric acid starts a reaction = Chlorine Dioxide (concentrate) then you mix this concentrate with water to get your final product ratio's

Example: http://www.cleantec.com.au/FHS/FACT%20SHEETS/Sanidex%2080%20fs.pdf don't worry about the company in the link, it is just for info, but you will see what I mean by the above statement.

Sodium Chlorite is available almost anywhere and is relatively cheap.

They all say that when all this is in water that it is stable, this must be right because they sell it to any one to clean and steralize what ever. I dont think that they would sell exploding chemicals to any old joe so it must be safe.

also the web is full of people claiming that this stuff is the cure for all ills, from tooth ache to cancer being promoted as a miracle mineral supplement or MMS (look up sodium chlorite mms) sounds a bit snake oily but who knows

Here is an active PDF file link http://www.cleantec.com.au/FHS/FACT%20SHEETS/Sanidex%2080%20fs.pdf
It looks interesting, but disinfecting does not mean cleaning.
Calcium Hypochlorite has a large amount of free chlorine, but don't clean very well.

See this is my problem.... Yes these products appear to be safe but one thing is that carbon dioxide will release the chlorine dioxide gas from the water..... (i.e. it can kill you) When you spray your mixture the air can cause the gas to be released from the water. It is safe while in water but not as a gas.

You guys need to be careful here; I've sold chlorine dioxide (ClO2) generating systems for over 15 years.  Chlorine dioxide is a gas that is easily dissolved into water that can also easily come out of water.  If ClO2 is in a closed container and pressurized, it can (possibly) become explosive.

The good:

- does not harm the environment or associated surfaces anywhere near that of bleach
- is environmentally safe, degrades into two salts
- isn't poisonous when acidified like bleach
- isn't corrosive, where bleach is very corrosive!

The bad:
- many generation methods aren't very efficient, i.e. mixing sodium chlorite with citric acid.  Citric is expensive and you only react 20% or so of the chlorite, wasting the rest.
- you'll need some better knowledge than what I've seen here to safely and successfully use this
- a good generator will cost you at least $8,000; the ones we make start at $40,000.

Good times,

Steve

Only $40,000?  I'll take three please.

Now only if the good columb was full and the bad coumb was empty, well the stuff was worth mentioning

I would still be interested in getting my hands on some of that TwinOxide stuff to see what it can or can not do. it's original use was as a strong bleaching agent, the germ thing came later.

Having said that all chems have a safety issue!

For instance never ever mix chlorine and brake fluid together it will explode like a bomb, A story, when I was an electrician years ago we were called to a home that just had a fire, when we got there the fire brigade was still mopping up, around the back yard parts of the back shed were scatteded every where, we were asked to disconnect the power to where the shed use to be to make it safe. I asked how all this happened and the fire fighters said that the home owner had pool chlorine stored in the shed. above the chlorine he had shelfs on which he had brake fluid and a Lawn mower petrol tin, the brake fluid leaked out and "dripped" in to the open container of chlorine, chemical reaction and Ka-Boom. I said how often does that happen and he said we get called to a couple a week, back sheds blowing up due to chlorine stored incorrectly, Chris watch out for those brake lines on your truck when the chlorine drips on them.

Got a voice mail from the Mfr. Rep for Twin Oxide today.
He is located in Ohio.
I will get back to him Monday and update the info I receive. He did state that his company received 6 emails today
and his boss was very curious what was causing all the interest in the product.
I don't think they have EPA approval yet for use in the U.S.. Don't understand why since chlorine dioxide is widely used in paper production all over the world. Twin Oxide is a different type of chlorine dioxide so it may require approval? I'll find out more on Monday and update everyone.

Go2 received EPA registration June '09... you'll find it is pretty expensive.  I've used it for some overseas mold abatement applications prior to EPA approval and have used it for emergency water treatment in Hawaii most recently.

Good product though, easy to mix and about as safe as ClO2 comes.

Chlorine dioxide gas can't kill you; it's completely different from
chlorine gas... just wear an activated charcoal particulate mask ($5)
and you are good to go.  On big jobs I have the workers wear full
face gas masks with acid gas filter cartridges.
