Future of Shingle Roof Cleaning

I was just talking with a roofing contractor the other day and of course we got on topic of roof cleaning. He told me that about 3-4 years ago asphalt shingle manufactors started putting either a algae inhibitor or got rid of the limestone filler in the shingles. I know they offered this a while back with the algae blocker in the more expensive shingles, but now he said its mandate in all the shingles. Something to do with class action lawsuits or something. Does this mean in 20-30 years there will be no more asphalt shingles to clean?no Please say it isn't so! Just curious to if anyone else has heard this or knows any truth behind it.

The Algae resistant shingles do work, but not totally.
We clean them daily!

Dave Westerman is correct!

The algae free mentality will cause people to freak when they get dirty, and some are under warranty !!!!!
The roofing company pays real good to clean a partially streaked roof, under warranty.

Just bid an AR shingled roof about ten years old (so the owners say). Didn't have a whole lot of moss on it today, but it's only a matter of time... bwwwhaaa haaa! (insert rubbing hands together here).  They only want half the roof cleaned.  I may do it, but with no guarantee.

Couldn't agree with you guys more on this subject and I live in moss hell.

Do they pay in a timely manner to you guys?  That seems to be my only gripe in this economy, though the money seems to always be good.  Took 6 months for my last customers to pay furious

I was shocked to even see the check...

alright!

there are also those Roof that looks lke Wood shake, clay, AR and barrel type that are made out of metal and are stone coated. some manufacturer offers 25 years on appearance and 50 years of panels but does not cover algea, moss, lichen infestation. they can't controll them...nice!
