copper sulfate vs bleach

Copper Sulfate will work,... The pellets are a serious pain to dissolve.

It's not as instant as Sodium Hypochlorite. It's also not nearly as cost effective to use as a competitive business.

Good for killing moss,..but then so is the cheaper zinc and even sodium bicarbonate.

Copper Sulfate is a long drawn out process and rather expensive. There are several products that will clean a roof. Shoot simple table salt will work over time. But then again, why try to fix something that isn't broke??????

There's a well known roofer in Tallahassee who I assume is not making enough money by installing roofs and has begun to advertise " environmentally friendly roof cleanings. He uses a copper sulfate solution. Very expensive on the bids which i have competed against ( 650 vs. my 300), and he does not promise immediate results.

However, his reputation and longevity as a roofer is getting him a few jobs. He also tends to slam the chorine treatment to his potential customers. I have had to deal with that a couple of times and have lost out.

As a former catfish farmer, I can promise you copper sulfate is not environmentally friendly, nor easier to use than SH. It can burn your lungs and skin just as badly as SH. It will kill plants and critters. We used to use it as an herbicide for filamentous algae. I have killed many catfish by overdosing ponds with this stuff!

I guess his strategy is to kill the algae with Copper Sulfate, and wait for the rain to wash it off ?
That will Never fly here in Tampa, the roof better be clean when you leave.

Yes Chris, that exactly what he does and then also upsells a " preventive" coating to keep the algae from coming back for two years, which ironically is about he length of time MY washes last!

Sadly he does have an "expert" reputation, so its hard to compete with him after he rattle off untruths about SH.

I don't like to do that , but IF you must .....
OR, you can beat him at his OWN Game.
Simply spray another vegatation killer on roofs besides Copper Sulfate Like ZINC Sulfate ?
It is more friendly to environment, and will not turn the roof BLUE, LOL
Go and demonstrate the nasty blue color of Copper Sulfate, show how it can stain stuff.
Take his "baseball bat" away, and whup his azz with it roof cleaning

I personally don't know Tim, but we have several mutual acquaintances. He is also "the man" when it comes to softwashing in the area! He commands great prices, does excellent work and has a=n awesome reputation.
