Welcome to RCIA Gary. Thats something I've never thought of doing. Counting all of our Roof Cleanings. I don't think I could even guess at how many roofs we have Cleaned. It's possible you may have me beat with that number though. Great Roof Cleaning pics by the way.
Thanks for the kind words. We use the apple sauce, but with a lavender scent. This seems to sooth the customer. Our chemicals are applied with the 8000 series shur-flo. We run it through 1/2 inch hoses and apply it through a 0020 tip. By using this tip we have found that we have have less run off. After all, you can't clean a roof with the chemicals on the ground. If we have an area that will be a concern, we divert the run off from downspouts with plastic roll out 2" hose. very much like used when draining pools. When the job is done, insert a hose into the diversion hose and flush the run off to the curb. Thse pumps will last just as any equipment will if you properly maintain it. After all, you ARE only as professonal as you look......
PLEASE PROVE THIS! WHAT IS WRITTEN ON YOUR SITE IS OPPOSITE WHAT YOU JUST SAID.
Gary I do not like conflict but come on now. My family comes from the "SHOW ME" state.
Nowhere in all my research and YEARS in the business have I seen 1, not one,WHITE PAPER, TECHNICAL DOCUMENT or any REAL VERIFIABLE DATA to support your claims here.
Curling, Shortening roof life substantially, voiding roof warranties, where did you get this info, you may be listening to too much hearsay.
I usually am one to LIVE and LET LIVE but I have to say something here.
You say RIGHT HERE ON OUR BOARD you use the METHODS we recommend: Your words not mine, "We use APPLE SAUCE with a LAVENDER SCENT which soothes the homeowner" Then you say the opposite, which is it Gary, please don't "back peddle" here or I will have a hard time believing ANYTHING else you may have to say.
This is what you say on your website.

BEWARE OF NO PRESSURE ROOF CLEANING
NO PRESSURE or ZERO PRESSURE Roof Cleaning usually means that your roof is being saturated with (Pool) CHLORINE. A product manufactured to kill bacteria in swimming pools. Which is inexpensive for the applicator which increases profits. In some cases Hydrogen peroxide is added. This product is applied to your roof and allowed to kill the fungus. What most homeowners fail to realize are the short and long term effects of this method. 1. Chlorine breaks down the asphalt causing extensive granule loss (Which are placed on the roofing material for UV protection) 2. Shingles become brittle and begin to curl thus shortening the life 5 to 7 yrs. 3. If Chlorine is allowed to penetrate beneath the roofing materials chances are the nails or staples used to attach the shingles to the roof will corrode allowing avenues for shingles to become loose and cause leakage. 4. Can cause severe damage to the gutters and drip edge molding around the roof line. 5. Kills, flowers, grass, shrubs and contaminates soil. In most cases, this method will VOID your shingle Manufactures Warranty.
Now, Gary, if I am wrong, I will rescind and apologize but I stand my ground for now. Prove me wrong. I am willing to learn something new here.
I understand if you have changed your methods and "tune" since Chris, Myself, Mike, Jeff, Kevin and others have let the cat out of the bag regarding our methods but are you intending to stand fast on this position?
I know that I have personally moved away from most any form of pressure, even rinsing and as such am changing my website and wording, and my new site should be up in the next few weeks.
If your, HONESTLY , in the PROCESS of change, that's great, we all learn and grow on this board, I KNOW I have.
Please kindly explain so we may understand your statements better?
Thank You

First and foremost, my website clearly states that some saturate the roof with chlorine. "Not" a mixture. Meaning straight chlorine...... Which you know as well as I will cause harm. There is a big difference in using a 3 to 1 mix or whatever is preferred vs. applying 100%...true or false? Secondly, we are in the process of building a new and improved website, which hopefully will be up and running within the next week to 10 days.
I am not trying to cause you problems but am trying to protect the board and its members, especially the new ones, from receiving to much conflicting information.
"Gary I do not like conflict but come on now. My family comes from the "SHOW ME" state.

If you have ANY supporting documentation that can prove the curling, chlorine getting under the shingle and loosing roof nails/staples, shortening roof life, by 5-7 years, or any other research paper that, in effect, substantiates these "CLAIMS" that are and have been running rampant on the boards and forums and can produce them please email them to me and I will scan and post them for all to see if they are from a VALID, reputable SOURCE that can be trusted.
We are all wanting to learn or update methods to be the most well educated, knowledgeable, CERTIFIED Roof Cleaning Contractors in the USA and abroad.
MANY myths are floating around on the net and in the web "ether" but when a light is cast upon the subject, no real supporting data has been produced to support the claims.
If there is proof, if there have been "double blind testing" performed or "placebo effect" documented studies which brings to light these so called damaging "effects" from "Chlorine" use. I will be the FIRST to say I will change if it can be proven.
For that matter, if ANYONE can provide ANY supporting documentation on this subject, by all means please "CHIME IN" and help us all to be better educated on the "do's and dont's" of chlorine use on roofs to remove and kill algae and offending stains and other plantlife growing on America's roofs.
We do not use straight chlorine and we do NOT advocate anyone else do that either here on the Roof Cleaning Institute of America.
We do advocate the use of a mixture, as you stated we do use, and apparently so do you as well, as you mentioned you ALSO use APPLE ROOF CLEANING's FAMOUS SAUCE"Gary.
My only point is that we all need to be on the SAME page here, as members of the Roof Cleaning Institute. It is our PROFESSIONAL duty to describe the best pratcices and methods our industry can provide to it customer base.
Don't you ALL agree?
I am a big fan of the X_FILES - the saying "The TRUTH is OUT there, The TRUTH will SET you FREE"
This applies to our methods and our procedures, websites, and conduct. I have had to adjust my cleaning methods over the years to align with the new information I have learned. I think this can be said for most all of us.
Interesting, I am not one to start trouble or be some one to disagree just because you can always learn from some one else in this industry but this is a straight quote from your website about SH or known as bleach;

Before allowing anyone to service your roof be sure to ask to see the following. If these items cannot be produced, it may be in your best interest to look elsewhere.
COPY OF LICENSE COPY OF INSURANCE MANUFACTURES SAFETY DATA SHEET (this will describe the chemical used to clean your roof)
BEWARE Chlorine bleach can void your termite warranty protection. Notice the following bulletin from Dow Chemical, a maker of termite control chemicals:
Strong bases will hydrolyze TERMIDOR to non volatile products, so household bleach (5.25% Sodium hypochlorite) can be used to neutralize (italics ours) the molecule.--Bulletin 311-52-032 Duraspan is the primary chemical use by termite exterminators nationwide. Chlorine bleach neutralizes termite chemicals. Federal law prohibits termite control chemicals to be applied more than once a year on the same property. Therefore, if the termite warranty has been voided due to chlorine bleach, the property owner will have to wait up to one year before the termite control chemicals can be reapplied.
" DON'T BE FOOLED BY IMITATIONS"
Well I have been cleaning roofs for many years and have used the apple sauce, apple cider mix and I have never seen shingle curl from it. I cleaned my own roof years ago just to see how it would work and my roof has not one shingle curl now any type of roof damage showing. The point I am making is your site as another roof cleaner stated that this board is all about no pressure roof washing and there is bulletins to back up what we do. I personally use bags on down spouts and dump away from landscaping and to keep the mix from the home, maybe you should make those changes on your website a little quicker.
A lot of these gentlemen that perform roof cleaning here support there family's from it and are looking to grow there businesses I feel that your posting and referring back to your site is like going 1 step forward then 10 steps back for this industry, well thats my two cents, good day.
WOW! You people are brutal..... How about giving a person time to make the proper website changes. Do any of you live in ROME????? It wasn't built in a day, nor can my website be done in a day. Shoot, I haven't looked at my site in months. I had to go back and read it myself. And YES, you are correct, ALL of you! And YES, there are YO YO's right here in my county applying straight 10% SHC to roofs. But I will not mention them on this sight. I will be glad to do so privately, as those of you who find my website offending should have done. I guess we all would be doing something else at this moment.
I don't think we were BRUTAL we were concerned what were we to think is this guy humoring us or are we humoring him ? And you must know what your site implies but any how its good to see your doing it the RCIA way
You say you want us to quietly deal with you in Private Messaging (PM) and not bring this to the attention of the RCIA members that you are a registered part of.
What if this had been a customer inquiring about the differences between what you say you do and what you are actually doing. What if , by chance, you are IMPACTING the minds of COUNTLESS Floridians to NOT choose to use Non Pressure Roof Cleaners by posting the information you represented on your website?
What then? How many potential customers may be mis-informed by your accusations so much so that if a real bonafide , CERTIFIED RCIA roof cleaner tries to reach one of these Florida homeowners that have read your site then get a flier or see a non pressure roof cleaning ad in the nickel ads or newspaper and they say to themselves or to their neighbors, "Don't use that non pressure roof cleaning method, it bad, its harmful it will void your roof warranty", well, Gary, what then?
You never get a second chance to make a first impression so all we are asking is for you to look at it from our viewpoint as well and consider what we are seeing.
You come on our board and post "This is our 6,000 plus roof job" all within your first 8 posts on the forum.
What do you expect us to do but check out your website and info? Its only natural.
This response you got from myself and other board members was ONLY based on the info you put out there for us AND the consumers to read?
We are not trying to attack you Gary, or your business or your methods, literally, but I am SURE you KNOW that you are a REGISTERED MEMBER of a CERTIFIED, NON_PRESSURE Roof CLEANING training forum?
This section is for Roof Cleaners and is closed to all that are not members. This area that we are discussing this whole thing on is not searched by Google or can it be crawled by the search engine spiders so we are not allowing the WORLD to see this discussion , however, you don't have anything to hide , do you? so what difference does it really make anyway? We are trying to HELP you and our rrof cleaners and this industry and NOTHING more.
We are not out to discredit or harm you are BRUTALIZE you, your company or your methods.
Our concern is how we ALL represent ourselves as the PUBLIC face of ROOF CLEANING WORLDWIDE.
You do not see what I see, Gary. There are countless chemical companies all trying to get the roof cleaning chemical marketplace cornered.
Countless thousands of wanna be roof cleaners and those that are misinformed about proper roof cleaning methods from manufacturers out to sell powders and drums of chemicals.
Many are mis informing or putting out the WRONG info just so we cannot buy the right, most effective product available to do the job at hand by putting all this GARBAGE out there about how Sodium Hypochlorite does athe things your website says it does, which for the most part is absolutely inaccurate.
Yes I build equipment for guys that do roof cleaning but I only promote methods I know work and work the best by proven tests that can be measured. Testimonials are solid evidence that what I tend to promote I have THOROUGHLY researched as best I can.
Now I am by no means perfect and am in fact far from it and am the first to admit I make mistakes in this and other areas of my life.
I and others here know the power of the internet and know for a fact that discrediting Non Pressure Roof Cleaning hurts us ALL. That is what your site does and continues to do.
It ABSOLUTELY discredits us, and know that you admit that you, Gary Boyd of Roof Brite of Florida use the SAME METHODS as the Roof Cleaning Institute Of America, your website's information about roof cleaning methods, also discredits you as well.
We are trying only to get you to recognize this and make the changes and do not keep trying to point the blame at us or our members.
We Like you Gary and we like Roof Brite of Florida. We want to keep you a part of the RCIA and to be a friend in the industry, not an enemy.
What we don't care for is mis-information or confusion that gets out to the consumer and makes them scared to use our method which is actually the Safest, most, mild method there is for safely cleaning asphalt and tile roofs.
We want ALL our members and CERTIFIED roof cleaning Non Pressure contractors to be successful here on the RCIA.
All we ask is that we all ALIGN on the main aspects of our combined cleaning methodology.
Is that to much to ask?
If you can respect and SEE where we are coming from then we can ALL get along and play nice, in the roof cleaning" PARK"
Fair enough?

I do not have a problem with all the concerns and comments placed on this site. I do understand the concerns of each of you who posted. However, in my defense, should I have any, I changed my website as quickly as I could. I suppose I should have done so prior to joining this site and that is my bad. Unfortunately, I'm not one to review my web page often. Although, it is not complete, we have made several changes and more are to come. To all my fellow Roof Cleaners, please accept my apologies. We have been soft washing for sometime now. I suppose I really should thank you for bringing my website to my attention.
