just got a 60x120 tarp

Thats a big one!! I would perhaps cut it down into 6- 20x60 tarps. I am using a roll of industrial grade thick mill clear plastic, to make tarps. They seem to actually last longer than most tarps I am using. You can buy it as 20x100

The roll I have now is 10x200 and I have made a 10x40 and a 10x60. It comes up a little short on the sides of tall plants as it is only 10. 20 should be plenty in my humble opinion.

Please wait for a couple more responses/ideas before you cut it, as I am fairly new to this.

I hear those tile roofs can be very slippery (we don't have em here) please be carefull!!

i bought this monster on craigslit for $75 it was never even opened last time i seen one this big it was $400 i think i built my hole rig off craigslist or ebay at least most of it. a few months ago i bought three electric reelcraft reels for $150 they all work just fine. I got my compressor for $300 16cfm emglo with 8hp honda craigslist is the best way to save money but i found out the hard way that if you waist time you'll miss out i waited on a 13hp compressor for $350 i missed it by less than five minutes lesson learned

Bill, don't forget, the tarps are a good reflector but the runnoff from the tarps still has to go somewhere...I've only used tarps a couple of times when I absolutely had to. They can be a real pita to use especially when your alone.

thank buddy i remember you telling me about that i plan on running soaker hose along the plants while im spraying i got new tips now i can mist insted of soaking thanks for the help in the right direction

First off, I must say this is by far one of the BEST forums I've ever been on! I'm in Seattle, WA where there is a need for roof cleaning by educated, honest and knowledgeable roof cleaning business owners/applicators from RCIA (which, I hope to be RCIA certified because Chris & Dave and the rest are geniuses). I have been cleaning roofs for 8 years now and been in business for myself for 3 years. Since WA is the most “GREEN” state in the country it seems, you have to have a permit and pay a tax to fart… … Anyhow, my comment on the tarp cutting is the same as Bill; 60 x 20 pieces are plenty. However, remember that during warmer months, clear plastic can cook the vegetation and kill’em even faster than the LOVE. It sounds like you have a reg tarp so no worries. Water, water, more water and bag if necessary. Professional salesmanship helps smooth things over if you have a mishap. Best of luck pal!

OK! You are not covering the field a Giant Stadium...

I have brown tarps to but if you are going solo you will need to be able to handle them...

I have on my van a 2 20 x 24, 4 16 x 20, 3 10 x10 and a roll of light weight plastic... that I simply roll out and cut to fit... if I need to use the plastic... biggrin

If I need to have more tarps I just go out and buy the sizes that I need... That big tarp is going to be a bugger to handle... Why cut it? # 1 It is probubly to big...

I haven't bought tarps in 3 years....! aww

Why Ask Why?

Just my thoughts... Why walk a roof? Only if it is an easy walker and will save time. Other wise if your application rig is good, for me I just climb the latter and get belly button to the gutter... My application rig keeps me off of the roofs 98% of the time...

Ok, It is going to get really hot... Pre water your foliage before you tarp and on a code orange day, hot hot hot, be quick to get those tarps off the plants. You do not want to bake them to a crisp...

Trust me this will happen if you are not careful... They need to breath and if it is 92 in the shade and those tarps stay on to long "You Will Bake Your Clients Plant Life.

They Will Die From The Heat Underneath those tarps... Brown is the best color and if you use plastic be sure you use it ,Not In The Direst Sun Light! Clear plastic will act like an "Easy Bake Oven."

You are heading in the right direction but jeeees how big was the tarp you bought?????

Look for tarps designed to cover stacked fire wood. Northern Tool recently had 6 x 20 thin mil such tarps on sales for I think $10 bucks. Light and easy to manage. I also use small horseshoe shaped metal stakes commonly used to hold erosion control meshing in place. Most any lowes or home depot will sell these stakes. Works great on windy days to keep tarps inplace. Hope it helps.
