Been lurking for awhile now but thought it was high time I spoke up and introduced myself. I have been pressure washing for another company for going on 12 years in the Kissimmee/Celebration area of Florida. I just recently went out on my own.
Like most I have been getting requests for roofs, so I have read like mad these last few weeks to try and learn the tricks of the trade...had my brain fried a few times but it's all good :) I would like to end up specializing in roofs.
I have attached pics of my first roof cleaning. I used apple cider mix at 30% SH. The owner insisted that I rinse.
I have a quick question about the brown streaks...although not too noticable IMO they are still there nonetheless. When I sprayed, all the black streaks turned brown instantly and most of the brown washed off. Should I keep reapplying the chems until the brown dissappears? I understand that no roof will look 100% perfect but is it something I should let homeowners know ahead of time that this may happen?
Reason I asked is cause I did a search and saw that the brown stains will rinse off with rain, but I assumed that they would dissappear with my rinsing also. (Dwell time was approx 1 hr as recommended).
Thank you in advance. I learn something everyday here.
Well water can cause the brown also wait for a good rain and see what you have, the iron in well water will wash off & so will any brown streaks if not hit the area one more time, make sure your SH is not weak
Agreed it can be iron in the water, or you might just have to hit those spots agian. It takes a little practice to tell if it is removed or needs a respray in those spots. This can be done before you rinse about 1/2 hr. after first application. Good luck brother and Welcome to the board.
I HIGHLY RECOMEND THAT NEW FOLKS JUST BUILDING THEIR FIRST RIGS START POSTING BEFORE THEY SPRAY IN ORDER TO AVOID THESE ISSUES>
Thanks for the response. We did have a good rain yesterday evening and the majority of the streaks are gone. There are some spots but I am going to touch them up. It was a neighbor's home and they were happy with the result (freebie). I am going to do another one on one of my rentals and just wait for the rain.

I just had the same thing on a roof I did. I hit it again and then rinsed after about 1 hour and the brown came off with the rinse.
As I have found over time and over many roofs.
It is no SIN as Chris puts it to have to touch up a roof after the required cleaning agent dwell time has been met.
IN the areas that look "ghost stained".
Spray again.
Sometimes it helps to spray a second application of cleaning agent above the offending area so the solution has a chance to sit above the area and drip onto it (technique) and then spray the actual areas again directly and lightly for full coverage.
Sometimes cling or "hang time " is an issue because of roof pitch.
In these situations it is sometimes necessary to "THICKEN " the cleaning mix.
All the other variables that have been mentioned previously is what makes our chosen profession unique, at times tough, and are just "service stripes" that come with experience in the field over many different situations and cleanings.
