Ok, I just want to ask the LURKERS and NEWBIES to stop calling for information. Seems I've answered to many questions and have spoon fed to many start-ups this Spring so far.
I'm not trying to be uncooperative, but there is loads of info here that one can get without having special phone service. Alot of us here started without the internet and nowhere to turn but to our own guidance. Anyone reading this board should be able to get rolling with the info unselfishly provided here.
It's one thing to ask a question, but to explain to someone over the phone every detail and the most basic of information is going to far.
I've had a ton of folks calling me this year too. Tucker had to go and make this board rank so high, that everyone keeps finding me! Wait a minute....that's a good thing.
BTW, the young lady from KY who called me the other day: please call again, my phone was fried!

Yea, this board has been the reason my site is on top for local searches. And I'm glad people are finding us,... but the new start-ups have to be a little more diligent in their own right. That's not saying they can't ask questions, but they need to ask them here,...not on the phone. But, maybe some of you don't mind,...but then again I was speaking on my behalf only, and not the overall consensus of the board.
its a roof cleaning how to forum and your a certified roof cleaner that has posted well over 200 times. Its natural that they are going to call you for info. they are told that this is what this site is for. Its like movie stars complaining about papparazzi. it comes with the job!
Yes, this site is for learning,.. but my direct line is for customers,... it's not an advice or a help line. All the advice anyone needs is right here. The numbers are there for customers and guys who maybe just want to talk shop.
This is not a job, it's unselfish information sharing. Movie stars get paid for being movie stars, we are paid nothing,...so that analogy doesn't work.

Welcome to a DAY in my life Kevin. Seldom a DAY goes by I dont get a call about roof cleaning. I send them here. no time to spoon feed.
I don't mind the phone calls, but when someone does call when I am working or busy taking care of customers I tell them to call on Sunday on my day off. No big deal.
I agree. It's not that hard to read this forum, they just need to take the time and actually read it. The information is here, just take advantage of it.

Sorry for wasting anyones time, but was quoted a price of 5-6 dollars for SH and the average on this site is 2-3 dollars. Just was trying to find out if prices increased as of late. Thought I might help Jeff find some work also. I know tons of people in Altoona wanting roofs cleaned and thought a finders fee of a little information would be fair, but there must be too much work in the area to need any more. Once again sorry for bothering anyone or offending anyone. GREEN DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN CLEAN

Hi Ken, my stand on this isn't the boards consensus. There are guys here that still don't mind being called. I have just talked to too many people this Spring and am tired of just handing the info to people. As I said in the PM I sent you, I started this thread before I even knew of you,..so it's nothing personal. Some here are taking what I've stated completely wrong. I am still glad to help on this site and answer questions as I always have. We as experienced contractors are here to help, it's not a requirement though,... and it's not a part of our job, I think some people tend to forget that.

I've read, re-read and then went back and read again. I bought everything needed to get going and was just waiting for warm weather. The idle time was killing me being anxious to get started. With all the info in my head from reading I felt I needed to talk to someone on the phone who's been doing this for a while. It helped calm the nerves. I called Jeff and he was great, nothing but a gentleman. We talked for an hour and I learned some of the ins and outs I hadn't read or thought to ask. I can see where Jeff is coming from, He is more than willing to help, but the calls can become time consuming. Time He can use with customers or improving his business. My next call to Jeff won't be a "how to" call but a fellow roof cleaner swapping stories call.......Thanks for everything Jeff.................Rich

I have to tend to agree with you Jeff. I am getting calls from all over the country at all hours and for the most basic info.
Its not that I don't want to help but it also seems that some that call don't have the decency to respect my privacy and the fact that this hard won info wasn't given to me for free.
I had to pay for it with broken pumps, nozzles clogging, fittings blowing, not marketing correctly, wrong keywords, and on and on.
Learning to do things, ANYTHING, takes time and dedication.
With the internet being so easy to "spoon feed" a new generation of roof cleaners, some of which want it all for nothing and actually get mad if you don't spill the beans on everything.
It makes me mad when people call me and expect me to convince them as to why roof cleaning works or how can SH clean a roof?
I tell them I wouldn't have wasted my time with 400 posts and pics just so I could give away free tech support.
I think we should have thought this through a little more and made enough fro our FREE Phone Support to at least pay our monthly phone bill
Many take no time to even read the posts but grab the phone number and make the call half ****ed with absolutely no basis for any real, deep, valid new insightful questions, they are just fishing, just using a treble hook to see what they can snag..
After a call I got this weekend from some guy who wanted me, to atta boy him, for doing roof cleaning the wrong way for the last five years, he got frustrated when I tried to KINDLY correct him because I referred him to the board for more info.
I am at the point that I too realized that there has to be some different way to approach handing out my number to everyone around the country and giving away time and knowledge without some form of compensation for this service.
I am not sure how to approach this conundrum of ALWAYS free distribution of roof cleaning info. I do not believe it is fair to those that give away most of the knowledge here on this board.
I and my family have to eat and live as well and my business depends on it. My website and this board does little to get me large amounts of work right now. It is more a "lay the foundation" for the public acceptance to find all this support info after they are exposed to the concept of roof cleaning.
I get most of my roof cleaning work by other methods, i.e., local advertising, door hangers, brochures, business cards, chamber of commerce mixers, word of mouth, newspapers, direct mail, etc.
I really do enjoy helping people but do not appreciate it when they are rude or expect something for nothing and when I tell them some, but not all of what they want they get aggravated and etc.
I want to say NOW and put it out there for EVERYONE to SEE that I am in BUSINESS, and in business it is about REVENUE.
If I give away everything what is left in it for me?
In the movie business its called "SHOW Business" because the actors make a show and they EARN revenue from being a PART of that show which PRODUCES BUSINESS or REVENUE from their participation.
On this board I am here to give of my time voluntarily, and when I am able to, I post and help others as assistant administrator which I knew when I started that I would be taking calls and answering questions.
My situation is slightly different as I CHOSE to be Assistant Admin. for the RCIA so with this great VOLUNTEER position comes responsibility, patience and tolerence, to a point. However, I did not sign a contract saying I would have to give 20-30 a week on the phone answering questions from guys not willing to read and digest the DETAILED info here on the RCIA, that instead feel its faster to ring the phone and call and B.S. for an hour or more trying to DECIDE if Roof Cleaning is RIGHT for them?
I am tired of having 3-5 callers a day or more asking me to CONVINCE them of if they should or should not get into roof cleaning. They should have made that choice well before picking up the phone.
As I said before and will say again, " Common Sense isn't so Common"
Thanks Dave and well said!! You're right,..and these people should be grateful we even post at all,...trial and error costs ALOT of money and time,...not to mention frustration. This information we gladly hand out to just whoever , is so much more valuable than they will ever know. If someone can't take the information that is UNSELFISHLY provided here on this board may as well not even bother.
With that being said, I don't mind getting calls from those who may just want to talk shop, or ask about something in particular I do and why. Not for guys asking why you have to keep the surroundings watered or how much hose they should buy,.... or how much money will they make.

Thanks Rich, and yes talking shop or techniques isn't an issue at all. And even helping the "new" guy with a particular issue isn't a big deal,...but some of the calls I had been getting lately were those who seemingly didn't do much more than take numbers.
WHERE"S OUR SPRING WEATHER RICH!!!
